Dubstar released their debut album 'Disgraceful' on Food Records in the Autumn of 1995 to worldwide critical and commercial success. Disgraceful features four UK Top 40 singles including the dreampop classic Stars, perennial radio favourite Not So Manic Now and The Day I see You Again, a ballad that revisits a broken relationship that's been covered by artists as diverse as Claudia Brücken and Bon Bob Club. A timely female led version of Billy Bragg's St Swithin's Day caught the imagination of the music press; an instrumental version was even used as the theme for the BBC's coverage of the Euro '96 football championship.
The follow up album Goodbye was released two years later and spawned another three UK Top 40 singles including No More Talk, a number one radio hit in the UK. Both albums were produced by Stephen Hague.
Third album Make It Better was released in 2000 and includes the fan-favourite Self Same Thing, their last single for Food Records. A belated compilation 'Stars…the best of Dubstar' was released by EMI in 2004.
Following a twelve year hiatus, Dubstar announced the recording of new material in 2012 and release their fourth, as yet untitled album in 2013, again working with Stephen Hague.

A twenties mom
With no one else to speak
You made your choice
We heard your voice
And now we all can laugh
This is where I stand
This is your
Victoria
We're in for you
This is your
Victoria
We're in for you this time
She holds your hand
Your cash
And time
For twenty years or more
You wanted this
You wanted this
And now
You are a bore
This is where I stand
On all the things you've planned
This is your
Victoria
We're in for you
This is your
Victoria
We're in for you this time
This is where I stand
On all the things you've planned
This is your
Victoria
We're in for you
This is your
Victoria
Victoria
We're in for you this time
Time
The song "Victoria" by Dubstar is a commentary on societal pressures and expectations in regards to domesticity and motherhood. The first verse describes a woman who has become a mother in her twenties and feels as though she has no one to speak to. This could be interpreted as her feeling isolated and disconnected from her friends or society at large because of the priorities she has chosen as a mother. The chorus is an anthem for this woman, with the lyrics "This is your Victoria, we're in for you this time" suggesting that she has ownership over her decisions and support from those around her.
The second verse portrays a different side to the story, with the line "She holds your hand, your cash, and time for twenty years or more" indicating that this woman's life revolves around her family and her role as a mother. The lyrics "And now you are a bore" suggest that while she may have found fulfillment in her role as a mother, others may not find her life as exciting or interesting. The repetition of the chorus highlights the internal conflict this woman may feel, where on one hand, she wants to fully embrace motherhood, but on the other hand, she wants to maintain her own identity.
