Black Flag
Duchess Says Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was dancing on my knees.
(looking like a prayer.)
Dancing on my knees.
(looking like a sister to me.)
Singing "Rosary! Rosary!"
Singing "Rosary! Rosary!"
(looking like a sister to me)
Dancing on my knees
Dancing on my knees
Dancing on my knees and trying to reach her black flag.
Black flag. Black flag. Black flag.

Dancing on my knees on my knees
(looking like a prayer)
Singing "Rosary! Rosary!"
Dancing on my knees
Dancing on my knees
Dancing on my knees and trying to reach her black flag.
Black flag. Black flag. Black flag.

Singing "Rosary!" singing "Rosary!" singing "Rosary!"
and trying to reach her.

Dancing on my knees on my knees on my knees on my knees

Trying to reach trying to reach trying to reach
the black flag, the black flag, the black flag, the black flag, the black.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Duchess Says's song "Black Flag" speak to the idea of devotion and seeking something bigger than oneself. The repeated lines of "dancing on my knees" and "singing rosary" emphasize a sense of submission and dedication, like one might have in prayer. The song seems to convey a sense of longing or yearning to grasp this black flag, as if it represents some sort of goal or salvation. The repetition of the phrase "trying to reach" gives a sense of struggle or difficulty in attaining this goal, which may speak to the idea of overcoming obstacles or hardships in one's quest for meaning or purpose.

Overall, the lyrics to "Black Flag" convey a sense of fervent devotion and a desire to reach something greater, even if it requires sacrifice or difficulty. I just saw this band last night at SXSW in Austin, Texas. They are awesome. It was one of the best shows I've been too in a really long time. Check them out.

I saw the documentary series about these people in a video series on Netflix called Wild, Wild Country. They followed the teachings of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and built their own city in the middle of Nowhere, Oregon. The doc covers it pretty good, but some pretty messed up stuff happened along the way.

All I could think about was this video... I always wondered who the people were in this video!

J'ai vu DS à Barcelone en conclusion du Primera Sound. Moment génial. En France nous avons Kap Bambino à Bordeaux et au Québec il y a Duchesse Says à Montreal.
