’60s-sounding Welsh blues singer Aimee Anne Duffy - known professionally as Duffy - released her debut single Rockferry in December 2007. After relocating to London in 2006, she came to the attention of Rough Trade. She is often compared to late ’60s soul diva Dusty Springfield and has experienced significant mainstream success with the single Mercy reaching #1 in the United Kingdom. The debut album, Rockferry, was released in March 2008, and also made #1 on the UK album chart. Bernard Butler of Suede worked extensively on the album, lending it an authentic and wonderfully produced lush ’60s sound.
The 24-year-old’s debut album, Rockferry, triumphed at the 2009 BRIT Awards for British Album, British Female Solo Artist, and British Breakthrough Act.

Something Good
Duffy Lyrics

Being in love with your boyfriend
You dump and see blokes, you don't laugh at jokes
Your Anti Christ could be a God send
Come down now, I guess you found how
Most of it's live will have to forgive you
Never let go, you don't know what they broke from it
If you get a little bit of something good hold on to it
Never let go, you don't know what they come against
We were the punks the bolly one drunks
The last to be out school teenagers
No one drops out, nobody shouts
Because the crash course to the neighbours
Come down now, I guess you found how
Most of it's live will have to forgive you
Not knowing if you get a little bit of something good, grab hold of it
Never let go, you don't know what they broke from it
If you get a little bit of something good, hold on to it
Never let go, you don't know what they come against
Something good, something good
Something good, something good
Why am I always the one, won't let go just hanging on
After all the love is gone, long gone
Why did you leave Camden town, something good
Why don't we see you around, something good
Why did you leave Camden town, something good
Why don't we see you around, something good
Why did you leave Camden town, something good
Why don't we see you around, something good
Why did you leave Camden town, something good
Why don't we see you around, something good
Why did you leave Camden town, something good
Why don't we see, something good
Duffy's "Something Good" is a song that revolves around the theme of finding the right thing to hold on to in life. The opening lines of the song are particularly captivating as they portray someone who seems to be struggling with their sexuality - "You think you're gay, gets in the way. Being in love with your boyfriend, you dump and see blokes, you don't laugh at jokes, your Anti Christ could be a Godsend". The lyrics go on to encourage the listener to hold on to something good when they find it because they never know what could come against them.
The song also highlights the experience of growing up in a rough neighborhood as a teenager - "We were the punks the bolly one drunks, the last to be out school teenagers. No one drops out, nobody shouts because the crash course to the neighbours". The lyrics suggest that life was tough but the people in that neighborhood persevered and never gave up on their goals.
The chorus of the song is particularly catchy and emphasizes the message of holding on to something good in life. The repetition of the phrase "something good" throughout the song reinforces the idea that there is always something good to hold on to despite the hardships in life.
Overall, "Something Good" is a song that encourages the listener to be optimistic about life and reminds them of the importance of holding on to something good when they find it.

So glad to see you're back as powerful as you were. 'm a 23 french girl. Across the countries, the language gap (I didn't understand English), I would always remember your album Endlessly. My mom and I used to sing it in the car when I was 11-ish. I love and have always loved your voice, your authenticity that shows in your music. If you still love to be a musician, please continue because you are so talented and you have marked people for a lifetime. <3
