’60s-sounding Welsh blues singer Aimee Anne Duffy - known professionally as Duffy - released her debut single Rockferry in December 2007. After relocating to London in 2006, she came to the attention of Rough Trade. She is often compared to late ’60s soul diva Dusty Springfield and has experienced significant mainstream success with the single Mercy reaching #1 in the United Kingdom. The debut album, Rockferry, was released in March 2008, and also made #1 on the UK album chart. Bernard Butler of Suede worked extensively on the album, lending it an authentic and wonderfully produced lush ’60s sound.
The 24-year-old’s debut album, Rockferry, triumphed at the 2009 BRIT Awards for British Album, British Female Solo Artist, and British Breakthrough Act.

But its ok cause my pockets getting fatter

I used to take drugs to slow down my brain (brain)
Like fuck these niggas cause they lame (lame)
Can't stop like the rain

You can't stop the rain (rain)
You can't stop the (rain)

You can't stop the rain
The lyrics to Duffy’s “Stop” appear to be about a relationship that’s going through a rough patch. The singer seems to be very angry and frustrated with her partner, and it’s affecting her overall mood. The singer is going about her day, and yet she can’t ignore the negative thoughts in her head, which are a result of something her partner said or did. She’s trying to keep it together, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to do so.
It seems like she’s been trying to talk to her partner about their issues, but they are not listening, and it’s causing her a lot of pain. She talks about how her partner is acting like a “child” and how it’s “driving her wild”. She’s frustrated and tired of trying to get through to her partner, so she’s decided to take a stand and confront them.
In the chorus, she pleads for her partner to stop what they’re doing to her. She’s frustrated and sad, and she wants her partner to recognize how they are affecting her. She feels dizzy and out of control, and she wants her partner to stop spinning her around. The lyrics are straightforward, and the song seems to be about the feeling of being trapped in an unhealthy relationship.
