He came out with his first album Dumas en 2001, when he was 21. His second album, Le cours des jours made him more well-known. One song on the Le cours des jours album was sung by Marie-Annick Lépine, from the group Les Cowboys Fringants. In 2004, Carl Bastien and Dumas released the soundtrack to the film Les Aimants by Yves P. Pelletier.
Comme rien
Dumas Lyrics

C'est comme rien
Comme un vide le matin
Comme un manque de caféine
Ou d'endorphine
La vie qui dure
Qui perdure
Ah!
Dumas’s song Comme rien talks about moments in life where one feels emptiness, a lack of something that creates a feeling of discomfort. He mentions the feeling of a void in the morning, which can be like the lack of caffeine or endorphins. Despite the fact that life continues, it persists, and the idea of the hardness of life for some is highlighted in the lyrics "Ah! Que pour toi la vie est dure." Dumas touches on the concept that some individuals go through moments that others may not have experienced, causing them to feel as if they are like nothing, like there is no meaning. The singer asks what others dream of when they have nothing left and states that he himself feels cramped, as if he is trapped in his own thoughts.
Throughout the song, Dumas expresses how he escapes his own feelings by taking a journey through the “excentrique night” on supersonic paper planes. He mentions the search for something perfect and states that sometimes this perfect thing is just like the feeling of nothing. The idea of trading a television for images of Marilyn Monroe or Brigitte Bardot suggests a change in perspective, a desire to seek something else. Dumas reveals that he waits for Anaïs Nin and reads her work, possibly as a form of escape or inspiration to move beyond the nothingness that he feels.
In the end, the song becomes a reflection of the human condition, where we all have moments in life that are like nothing. We try to escape and dream of something more significant or perfect, but sometimes the escape is just like nothing, just like the feeling of emptiness that we are trying to escape from.
