Cool and Calm
Dumbfoundead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Waking up to instrumentals playing, Smoke up in the ceiling fan
Complicated wordplay but really I'm a simple man
I like my weather good, I like my women hood
I keep it one hundred, and get misunderstood
Don't get my words twisted now, we ain't all the same
ExplainSome got a silver spoon, others have a ball and chain
Some wish you all the best, some wish you all the pain
Life's a game and I'm trying to make the hall of fame
This society asks you to pick a side
Every minute of your life three hundred and sixty five
Red or blue, big or small, yes or no, right or wrong
The difference between the two is the feeling of I belong
Yeah, we in the middle of all this
The temperatures rising like the middle of August
They litter the airwaves, you pick up the garbage
Big dreams coming out this little apartment

All I know is keep it cool
I stay calm
They ask me "How you do that?" "What is this fool on?"
A little bit of this, a little bit of that
It's the whole lot of nothing that keeps me on track

All I know is keep it cool
I stay calm
They ask me "How you do that?" "What is this fool on?"
A little bit of this, a little bit of that
It's the whole lot of nothing that keeps me on track

Never reached six digits in my bank account
Credit score red, same color that I paint the town
Three month relationship, tells me she can't wait around
You can break me down, as long as my fam's safe and sound
I keep the weed lit, and keep my glass full
I call it real talk, they call it asshole
I call it on the grind, she calls it selfish
She needs me all the time, I call her helpless
Is it a problem that I don't care
Maybe that's the reason that I'm stuck at almost there, it's no fair
On this path, there's no warnings or road flares
All is fair in love games and warfare
Another underdog story for the books
But I promise that the story is as foreign as I look
Waiting at the bus stop to touring on a bus
When the going gets tough I keep it up

All I know is keep it cool
I stay calm
They ask me "How you do that?" "What is this fool on?"
A little bit of this, a little bit of that
It's the whole lot of nothing that keeps me on track

All I know is keep it cool
I stay calm
They ask me "How you do that?" "What is this fool on?"

A little bit of this, a little bit of that
It's the whole lot of nothing that keeps me on track

Overall Meaning

In "Cool and Calm," Dumbfoundead reflects on his life, acknowledging that he is a simple man who values good weather and women who are loyal to their roots. He admits that despite his straightforward approach, he is often misunderstood. Furthermore, he highlights the dichotomy of society wherein people are forced to pick a side and that he is trying to make it into the "hall of fame" in this game of life. He also emphasizes that he stays level-headed amidst the chaos around him by keeping his emotions in check and taking things in stride. While some people may view him as selfish or aloof, Dumbfoundead sees it as a necessary trait to achieve his goals.

The lyrics represent an artist who is taking a laid-back approach to success, which is quite rare in the competitive music industry. Dumbfoundead acknowledges that he has not made a fortune from his music, and his relationships are short-lived, but he keeps his priorities straight by focusing on his family's safety and keeping himself motivated. He keeps himself grounded by indulging in his passions like smoking weed and keeping his glass full. He recognizes that people perceive him as selfish or an a**hole, but he sees it as a result of pursuing his dreams.

The song's lyrics depict Dumbfoundead's life journey, starting with his humble beginnings in a small apartment to his current status as a respected rapper. The message could inspire people to keep pushing forward and work towards their goals, despite the adversities they may face. Ultimately, it reminds people to stay true to themselves and stay cool and collected even amidst chaos.

Hes dope, a GOAT for sure. Never got the recognition he deserved, he was about telling a story and not so much about the fast rap shit. I rocked this shit every fucking day back in highschool. I'm a big hip hop fan, I listen to what I considered the cream of the crop. freddie Gibbs, Kdot, souls of mischief, wu tang etc. are among my favorites. Dumbfoundead is up there with them, hope I can catch a concert after corona dies.
