Their style was based on an acoustic and simple pop-rock with a touch of rockabilly in great contrast with the more radical rock played in the area at the time. After being hired by 'Grabaciones Accidentales, S.A.' they contributed with two songs (Mi Amor and Bésame Mucho) to the new bands compilation La única alternativa (The Only Alternative).
In 1985 they recorded their first album, Por Tierras Escocesas (Around Scottish Lands), and Canciones (Songs) a year later, both produced by Paco Trinidad. The songs were immediately successful and gave them big popularity. After even more successful El Grito del Tiempo (The Cry of Time, 1984) and Grabaciones Olvidadas (Forgotten Recordings, a compilation of B-Sides, 1989) they became a duo and recorded the double album Autobiografía (Autobiography), with collaborations by Black and Sam Brown among others. They later also had several hits such as "Esos Ojos Negros" ("Those Black Eyes"). They finally came to a close as a band with their final cd, "Crepúsculo y Crudités" (Sunset and Crudités [1]) which was more orchestrated and softer than their older music.
Their most known hit is "En Algún Lugar" ("In Some Place"). The song was initially featured in Canciones, but it was the remix included in El Grito del Tiempo that became widely popular.
Extraños
Duncan Dhu Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
extrañas sombras, extrañas figuras
espían sin fijar su mirada,
te observan sin llegar a mirar otra vez.
Otra vez
los ves llegar
ahora cerca, cerca de tu portal.
cierra el libro, no sueñes más,
vuelve mañana al colegio
los volverás a observar.
Otra vez,
otra vez los ves llegar
abre la puerta y los verás.
In Duncan Dhu's song "Extraños," the lyrics describe the experience of being spied on by strange figures. The song opens with the line "Esperan a la puerta de tu colegio," which translates to "They wait at the door of your school." These "extrañas sombras" or strange shadows and figures, are watching the singer without directly looking at them. The lyrics convey a feeling of unease and paranoia, with the repeated phrases "te observan sin llegar a mirar otra vez" and "los ves llegar ahora cerca, cerca de tu portal."
As the song progresses, the singer urges the listener to ignore these strangers and refuse to let them interfere with their dreams. The line "cierra el libro, no sueñes más" means "close the book, don't dream anymore," indicating that the singer should focus on their studies and not be distracted by the strange figures. However, the chorus suggests that these strangers will return, as they are "extraños sin llegar a extrañar" or strangers who never really leave.
Overall, the lyrics of "Extraños" paint a haunting picture of a protagonist being watched by mysterious figures who never truly disappear. The repeated lines add to the sense of foreboding and urgency, urging the listener to be cautious and vigilant.
