A second EP, Atoms, was released in September 2011 and featured the single "Pogo." It featured production work from Morrissey, Berkfinger (Philadelphia Grand Jury) and Sean Caskey. The band received attention on Triple J Unearthed, and were selected to play the Gold Coast leg of the 2012 Big Day Out. The band released a new single, Fuck It, in 2012; as well as touring with bands such as Bleeding Knees Club, DZ Deathrays, Children Collide and Violent Soho. 2013 saw the release of the band's third EP, Smile. The EP featured the single "Red Light, Green Light," for which a one-take video was made where the band re-enacted the DZ Deathrays video for "The Mess Up," replacing their beer-sculling with bong-smoking. The video has picked up over 250 thousand views. The band also picked up international support slots for acts such as The Hives, Best Coast and FIDLAR; the latter of whom they toured with through the US as well. They were also invited to perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas; as well as a tour of South-East Asia.
The band's debut self-titled LP was released via the band's own label, Ratbag Records, on June 1, 2014. It was supported by a world tour. Two new singles, "Bullshit" and "Scott Green," were released in 2016. Both entered the triple j Hottest 100 of that year and featured on the band's second studio album, The Kids Will Know It's Bullshit. The album was released on January 20 2017, and debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts.
After an extensive world tour, the band returned with three new singles in 2019: 'No Plans,' 'Rubber Arm' and 'Crazy.' All three were featured on the band's third studio album, Hurry Up And Wait. The album was released on January 31 2020. Like its predecessor, it also debuted at #1.
Blind
Dune Rats Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I know you're afraid
We won't go blind
We won't go blind
I'll always help you
remember these day
We won't go blind
Time always tells
I'm never that right
We won't go blind
We won't go blind
Now they're all jaded
from way too much sight
We won't go blind
We won't go blind
I won't grow
I won't grow
You're lazy, you're stupid
Mark always said
We won't go blind
We won't go blind
You're crazy, you're useless
It's always the same
We won't go blind
We won't go blind
I won't grow
I won't grow
You're lazy, you're stupid
You're lazy, you're stupid
You're lazy, you're stupid
You're lazy, you're stupid
The lyrics of Dune Rats's song "Blind" seem to speak to a sense of fear and anxiety that the singer is trying to ease. They open with the singer acknowledging that the person they're addressing is afraid, and that they themselves might come across as being crazy for the reassurances they're offering. The repeated refrain of "we won't go blind" suggests that the fear in question might have something to do with vision loss, but it's also possible that it's a metaphorical blindness they're referring to - being blind to the future or to one's own potential, for instance.
The lines "I'll always help you remember these days" and "time always tells" add to the sense of wisdom and perspective being offered to someone who might be struggling to find their way. The repeated phrase "I won't grow" might suggest a fear of change or a desire to stay in a comfortable, familiar space. Alternatively, it could be a statement of defiance against those who have called the person lazy or stupid in the past, suggesting that they won't conform to those labels.
Overall, the lyrics of "Blind" offer a sense of reassurance and comfort in the face of fear or uncertainty, with the repeated refrain of "we won't go blind" acting as a kind of mantra to focus on.
