Duprees Lyrics

(Aah-aah-aah-aah, aah-aah-aah-aah)

My own true love
My own true love
At last I've found you
My own true love

No lips but yours
No arms but yours
Will ever lead me
Through Heaven's doors

I roamed the Earth
In search of this
I knew I'd know you
Know you by your kiss

And by your kiss
You've shown true love
I'm yours forever
My own true love

My own true love

The sound and harmony of original group has never been duplicated. Heard them several times in Lodi and Palisades Park. Joey was the best lead they every had. Those that followed were only imitating his style, even though they had decent voices of their own. Joey was the best and his style was unique.

Such a sad yet beautiful song. Forty years after it came out, it perfectly described a broken relationship I had in my early 50s. I can't hear it without thinking of the best lover I ever had. The relationship "burned brightly" in the beginning and, almost as soon as it began, it was "gone with the wind."

@Lisbeth22250

I'm so sorry for your loss. I truly care and am sorry.

The original version of this song was uptempo and done by the Shepherd Sisters in 1956 on Melba 100, the first record on this label. This slow version is excellent but you should listen to the original version. What's funny is that the Duprees made a recording of "Tara's Theme" from the movie "Gone With the Wind" and it was the only version to have significant sales and reached #13 on Billboard - "My Own True Love". The Duprees usually made covers of records from the early 1950s ("You Belong To Me", "Why don't You Believe Me", "(It's No) Sin and "Have You Heard".

@rennerbd

Actually, the original version was done by Dick Jurgens & His Orchestra with a vocal by Eddy Howard in 1938. I was recalling the 'modern' version by the Shepherd Sisters.
