In high school, I played with a band - the Rondells and we played at a beach club in NY. Headlining that night was the Duprees. They didn't bring their own drummer so I got the privilege of backing them up. Was a great experience! I can't believe how long ago that was. Last. Bobby Lewis was supposed to play that night and last minute was switched. Sure glad they did.

@Mike Ha, Ha and Iam 77 this year, also- true story, my next door neighbor in Edison N.J. just so happen to be the original duprees saxophone player in there band in 1966-1969 and he asked me would I like to see them in person back stage, and of course i said of course, the rest was history, every chance I got to see them when they went on tour in NJ & new York, and even party with them in private parties, so I got to be good friends with all of them as well. true story. and like I said !!, the only follow-up group that even tried to come close to the original was when Richie Rosato as their lead singer, IMO: but God bless you and all of us now old, Baby boomers. ha ha.

@Ron c Great story Ron! BTW, their appearance at the beach club was in 1963. So it predates his part. Like a movie - I remember one of them saying - "watch me for the cuts and try to keep up" I don't remember how many songs they sang to be honest. I haven't played in a band now going on 7 yrs and I do miss it. 😕

Jo Stafford sang the original but I never heard a remake done like the Duprees did to this song. They took the dull original(sorry Jo Stafford) put a good doo wop sound to it and made it the classic it is today.

Jo Stafford was one of the finest singers of the late 1940s, and did an excellent version of this tune...but the Duprees set the Doo-Wop standard with their style of singing!...Just a matter of different style, that's all.
