Radio
Durante Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The blind inspiration, total disillusion
Instant consecration, mind and body fusion
Frontal assault on the seven senses
Orgasmic waste, eccentric and pretentious

KMFDM, doing it again
A treat for the freaks, truth or dare
Are you ready for this? we don't care
Deify data, hard but true

Godlike nonsense being thrown at you
We keep simple, tough and outright
Easy to swallow, KMFDM light
KMFDM, doing it again

A treat for the freaks, truth or dare
How low can you go? we don't care
In a world of deceit, open your eyes
What we do for you, so good for you

Don't be afraid and you'll realize
What you do for me, so good for me
One way or another, now or later
Bow down and worship the true creator

Take a good plunge and out from the masses
Bend over backwards and kick some asses

Call 1-800, accept no imitation
KMFDM, one world, one nation

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Durante's song "Radio" are highly metaphorical and open to interpretation. The verses describe the sensory overload and overwhelming, almost addictive, experience of listening to the industrial/rock group KMFDM (which is also referenced in the chorus). The lines "blind inspiration" and "total disillusion" perhaps speak to the powerful effect of the music on both the mind and body, causing the listener to lose themselves in the experience. The phrase "mind and body fusion" conveys this idea further, as does the notion of an "orgasmic waste", drawing a parallel between the pleasure of sex and the pleasure of listening to music. The sense of rebellion in the song is also palpable, with lines like "frontal assault on the seven senses" and "deify data, hard but true" suggesting an aggressive, almost confrontational attitude towards mainstream culture and values.

The chorus reinforces this sense of rebellion, urging the listener to join in defiance and embrace their freakishness. Lines like "how low can you go?" and "in a world of deceit, open your eyes" convey a feeling of challenging societal norms and perceptions, while the repeated refrain of "KMFDM, doing it again, a treat for the freaks, truth or dare" seems to emphasize the group's willingness to create music that is edgy and provocative, even if it might not be commercially viable. The final stanza of the song is perhaps the most intriguing, with its mix of German and English lyrics. "Musik ist macht" (music is power) speaks to the ability of music to transform and empower the listener, while the cryptic lines "der Heldenriff ist der Froschfresser" (the hero's riff is the frog-eater) and "der Rhythmus ein schoner Schwan" (the rhythm a beautiful swan) are less clear in meaning, but add to the overall sense of mystique surrounding the song.
