Return
Dusk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I woke up at a dark and cold place
It is narrow and the air is damp
Smells of the dead spreads in the smothery air
I'm in a bin
I'm dead, smelling my reek
Deeply under the ground, far from the livings
We are dead in the world of the livings
We are dead, however we are awake
Digging myself I behold
The red hot full moon
I take cognizance of my arrive
To the world of livings with a long screaming
My body is putrefaction, my soul is destruction
I flew down by a war chariot
From the sky of the black night
I hear the screaming of my brothers in my soul
We are here again to fulfill the whispers of our soul
My recollections remembers me to my frozen death in my blood
We left the life in each other's arms for perpetuity

We got each other's arms to eternity
For the riddance

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dusk's "Return" describe the experience of waking up in a dark, cold, and cramped place while being dead and smelling the stench of death. The singer realizes that they are buried deep underground, far from the living, but they are somehow still conscious. As they begin to dig themselves out of the bin, they see the red hot full moon and scream in recognition of their return to the world of the living.

The lyrics then take a mythical turn as the singer describes being flown down by a war chariot from the black night sky, and hearing the screams of their brothers in their soul. They are in the world of the living again to fulfill the whispers of their soul, and they remember their frozen death in their blood. The singer and their loved ones left the life in each other's arms for eternity, but they have returned to seek riddance.

The song's lyrics are open to interpretation and could be seen as a metaphor for rebirth, reincarnation, or the afterlife. The dark and claustrophobic setting of the beginning of the song could represent a state of limbo or purgatory, while the red hot full moon and the war chariot could symbolize a journey through different realms of existence. The references to frozen death and being buried underground could represent the end of a cycle of life and the beginning of a new one.
