Dustin also has a solo acoustic side project under his own name. He had toured in past years on his own under the moniker "Ursus Veritas," but decided to drop the name in favor of simplicity since "people have enough trouble just pronouncing [his] last name to begin with." The name was a play-on-words of its Latin components: Ursus meaning bear, and Veritas meaning truth. Kensrue has been quoted as saying there is no real special significance to the name, other than he likes bears, and thought it sounded cool.
On January 23, 2007, Kensrue released a solo album titled "Please Come Home" under his name, Dustin Kensrue and on the label Equal Vision Records. It includes the tracks "I Knew You Before," "Pistol," "I Believe," "Please Come Home," "Blood & Wine," "Consider The Ravens," "Weary Saints," and "Blanket Of Ghosts." He wrapped up the recording and mixing of the album at the home of fellow Thrice member Teppei Teranishi. The album opened at 142 on the Billboard 200 with 5,800 copies sold. He supported the album with a solo tour including stops on David Letterman's talk show and The Fuse Network.

Blue Christmas
Dustin Kensrue Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll be so blue just thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing, dear, if you're not here with me
And when those blue snowflakes start falling
That's when those blue memories start calling
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas
Yes, I'll have a blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas
Dustin Kensrue's song "Christmas in 2-3" is a cover of the classic song "Blue Christmas." In this song, Kensrue sings about feeling the blues during the holiday season due to a lost love. The first verse explains that Christmas won't be the same without the person he's missing. Kensrue's melancholic vocals capture the longing and sadness felt during the holiday season when someone important is gone. He then continues to repeat the chorus of "blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas" to emphasize the feeling of sadness that lingers.
The second verse delves further into the feelings of nostalgia and memories associated with the holiday season. The snowflakes falling and the decorations meant to bring joy only serve as painful reminders of what has been lost. The song ends by reiterating that while others may be having a white Christmas filled with snow and happiness, Kensrue will be experiencing a blue Christmas without his loved one.
Overall, the song captures the emotions and struggles that come with experiencing the holiday season after losing someone important. The lyrics are relatable and tug at the heartstrings, making it a powerful addition to any holiday playlist.
