Dustin also has a solo acoustic side project under his own name. He had toured in past years on his own under the moniker "Ursus Veritas," but decided to drop the name in favor of simplicity since "people have enough trouble just pronouncing [his] last name to begin with." The name was a play-on-words of its Latin components: Ursus meaning bear, and Veritas meaning truth. Kensrue has been quoted as saying there is no real special significance to the name, other than he likes bears, and thought it sounded cool.
On January 23, 2007, Kensrue released a solo album titled "Please Come Home" under his name, Dustin Kensrue and on the label Equal Vision Records. It includes the tracks "I Knew You Before," "Pistol," "I Believe," "Please Come Home," "Blood & Wine," "Consider The Ravens," "Weary Saints," and "Blanket Of Ghosts." He wrapped up the recording and mixing of the album at the home of fellow Thrice member Teppei Teranishi. The album opened at 142 on the Billboard 200 with 5,800 copies sold. He supported the album with a solo tour including stops on David Letterman's talk show and The Fuse Network.

Christmas Blues
Dustin Kensrue Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But it's raining in my heart.
Well, it's Christmas time everybody,
But it's raining in my heart.
And you know that I love you, baby.
Tell me, why must we be apart?
Well, you told me New Year's Eve,
Well, you told me New Year's Eve,
We'd be together Christmas time.
Well, it's Christmas Eve, my Darling,
Will you be here when the bells begin to chime?
What is a ship without a crew?
What is the morning without the dew?
What is a ship without a crew?
What is the morning without the dew?
What is my life, Little Darling?
A lonely Christmas without you.
The song Christmas Blues by Dustin Kensrue captures the feeling of loneliness and heartbreak during the festive season. The opening lines "Well, it's Christmas time everybody, But it's raining in my heart" set the tone for the song, as the singer longs for his lover to be with him during the holidays. He expresses his love for her and wonders why they cannot be together. In the second verse, he talks about a promise she had made on New Year's Eve, that they would spend Christmas time together, yet she is not there. The chorus repeats the theme of loneliness and heartache during a time that is supposed to be joyous.
The third verse of the song uses metaphor to further illustrate the singer's longing for his lover. He compares his life to a ship without a crew or the morning without the dew. He asks, "What is my life, Little Darling? A lonely Christmas without you." This line highlights the impact that the absence of his lover has on his life and is a powerful reminder of how important human connection is, especially during the holiday season.
Overall, Christmas Blues is a poignant song about love, loss, and the pain of being alone during the holidays. It captures the contrast between the festive cheer around the world and the despair that can be felt by those who are separated from loved ones.
