Silk
Dustin Tebbutt Feat. Thelma Plum Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're one breath from my body
A satellite with stormy eyes
A heart that feels like running
But it's all right

The way that I see you there
While my chest comes undone
Like water runs and crests
No cease in this beating drum

Tailor don't leave here yet
The silk we're seeking
Starts as thread
Tailor go easy
I know you don't see it but
It starts as thread

I see the dark clouds bloom
But I don't need a saviour
So come in I'll take you
Down here I'll lay you
Only warm and only true

I hear those mountains call
For something more but there's nothing more

Than running my hands through your fresh cut hair
And your shape as winter falls.

Overall Meaning

The song "Silk" by Dustin Tebbutt featuring Thelma Plum is a beautiful and emotional composition that speaks of love and longing. The lyrics start by describing the proximity of the two lovers where the singer is just one breath away from the other person. The other person is depicted as a satellite with stormy eyes, which conveys the impression that this person is powerful and mesmerizing. The singer also acknowledges that the other person's heart feels like running, which could represent a restlessness or unsettledness, but reassures that it's alright.

The lyrics then go on to describe the intense feelings and the impact that the presence of the other person has on the singer. The way they see the other person causes their chest to come undone, like water running and cresting with a beating drum that has no cease. The singer then addresses a tailor, who is seeking silk, but reminds the tailor that the silk begins as a thread. This could represent the idea that valuable things start from something small and seemingly insignificant.

The chorus of the song shines a light on the yearning that the singer has for the other person. They welcome the other person into their life, irrespective of the potential obstacles that might come in the way. The singer also assures that they do not need a savior and offers comfort to the other person with the promise of only warmth and truth. The lyrics end by describing the mountains calling for something more, but the singer finding solace in the calming presence of the other person.

@ohadpilo

Thanks for the quick respond!

im trying to get a similar sound in my song that im working on at the moment :)

on the verses is it only the strumming of the acoustic guitar on beats 2 and 4? or you used a sample together with it?

and in the song "Bones" what did you used as snare(beats 2 and 4) in the choruses?
on the verses is it again strumming + a sample?

sorry for all the questions :) i'm really learning a lot from your songs!

This is one of those songs that leaves you entirely unable to multitask or do anything else while listening to it because you don't want to miss a single measure

I’m in love with this song! It feels so nostalgic for me. I just stop in my tracks and life slows down for a moment and I enjoy the beauty. I appreciate life listening to this. So beautiful.

@Owl566

I listen to this music while I hike or am camping. I get completely lost in the moment and don’t think of anything else - thank you Dustin!

Dustin's music gets into my barricaded closed off Heart; he walks softly through the walls of my fortress; he takes my hand and I can feel safe i can feel understood not alone and just be myself. His music just feels like Home to me. I don't know why. A true gift of presence and light ~

This song is me and baby boys song. Had listened to this ever since I met his father and ever since I was pregnant with my first born. The midwife told me during labour to think about what is the best thing that'll get me through the pain of contractions and birth. Then when I thought bout the future with my partner and baby and how life was gonna be for our little family. this song came up in my head and I started singing it. It reminded me of my love for my partner and my son that I already was connected to during the whole pregnancy❤️🤧🌹.

My favorite indie compilation starts with breach and ends with Silk. Wow! Even though there is a lot of amazing songs there couldn't think of better start and ending. You're both amazingly talented!

@benzonmotas

my official travel music

@Hakajin

Why do I love this song so much? I can't quite put my finger on it. It's got this sense of darkness and longing and sensuality... Somehow it reminds me of the sea... In a way that doesn't have anything to do with the lyrics.

@davidkariu2330

This song makes me cry. That's all. And thank you Dustin and Thelma.

Found my new favorite song ;) I don't think there is a single song I've heard by you that I don't absolutely love.
