Heart & Soul
Dusty Springfield & Cilla Black Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ooh, hoo
It was back in 'sixty-three
We were young and we were free
Thought the world was really ours for the taking
We had heart and we had soul
Ooh, we lived for rock and roll
And didn't we, didn't we, didn't we do it?
Fashions come and fashions go
We were there so we should know
I sometimes smile when I think of how I looked then
Burning candles at both ends
Hoping time would make amends
And didn't we, didn't we, didn't we do it?

With heart and soul
The world is yours, the stars are too
If you bring out the best in you
With heart and soul
Whatever you've been wantin' to do
Heart and soul will see it through, oh, ho

Now we're older nothing's changed
Just some things are rearranged
But the message is the same as when we started
We're gettin' stronger everyday
Looking back now we can say
Didn't we, didn't we, didn't we do it?, ahh

With heart and soul
The world is yours, the stars are too
If you bring out the best in you
With heart and soul
Whatever you've been wantin' to do
Heart and soul will see it through, ahh
See it through, see it through, ooh, hoo
Ooh, hoo, sing it, sing it, sing it, oh, yeah

With heart and soul
The world is yours, the stars are too
If you bring out the best in you
With heart and soul
Whatever you've been wantin' to do
Heart and soul will see it through

Oh, ho, it will see, will see, will see it through, ooh, hoo

You can see it, you can see it, see it, see it through
You can see it, you can see it

Music Rocks!

Dusty and Cilla nailed this one. It should have been a WAY bigger hit!!! Their dance moves and vocals are very different, but they blend together so well in this!!! RIP DUSTY AND CILLA ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I disagree. This perfomance is nothing less than a major embarrassment for these two fine artists. Typical TV-Centre.
Watch, and listen to, their earlier achievements and you`l know what I mean.

I considered Dusty to be the Queen of "White Soul!" She had a voice like no other, and could make you feel what she sang; that was special!!!

The two divas are amazing together. Am a huge Dusty fan. We didn't hear much Cilla in the U.S. I have enjoyed her voice, also, but Dusty was and is the best singer of all time, in my opinion.

Please don't laugh but Dusty, when I was until 6, was one of my nanas albums. I came home from daycare, nursery school they called it in 60's, went to her stero and got "my mom" out and sat and listened to her over n over while holding the cover so tight. You see my mom had died when I turned 1 and no one explained things to me. I didn't care though, with know explanation I was missing my mother I should have but didn't know where she was. I so grateful for her voice. Peace
