Bad Thing About A Backroad
Dylan Schneider Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing better than a four wheel sunset, two lane with a pastel sky
That feeling that you get wide open, rollin' yellow faded lines
Way out in the country, where the world slows down
Used to be one of y'all out there, but I hardly ever drive 'em now

The bad thing about a backroad
Is I know she's gone
And I see her every time I'm on one
She's back sittin' pretty in the shotgun
Like she used to be
Now I wish we would've stayed in town
Every time we put the pedal down
'Fore she stole my heart, 'fore she said goodbye
I couldn't find, no I couldn't find
A bad thing about a backroad

I know a better way to get where I'm going
But I can't take it, can't face it
So I stick to being stuck on a highway
Four lanes, missing that dust
But at least I ain't thinkin' 'bout us

The bad thing about a backroad
Is I know she's gone
And I see her every time I'm on one
She's back sittin' pretty in the shotgun
Like she used to be
Now I wish we would've stayed in town
Every time we put the pedal down
'Fore she stole my heart, 'fore she said goodbye
I couldn't find, no I couldn't find
A bad thing about a backroad
A bad thing about a backroad

Way out in the country, where I wish I was now
I used to be one of y'all out there, but I hardly ever drive 'em now

The bad thing about a backroad
Is I know she's gone
And I see her every time I'm on one
She's back sittin' pretty in the shotgun
Like she used to be
Now I wish we would've stayed in town
Every time we put the pedal down
'Fore she stole my heart, 'fore she said goodbye
I couldn't find, no I couldn't find
A bad thing about a backroad
No I couldn't find, no I couldn't find
A bad thing about a backroad

No I couldn't find, no I couldn't find
A bad thing about a backroad

Overall Meaning

Dylan Schneider's song "Bad Thing About A Backroad" takes the listener on a drive through the countryside. The opening lines paint a picturesque scene of a sunset on a rural road. The singer talks about the feeling of freedom and adventure that comes with being out in the country with nothing but the open road in front of him. But as the song progresses, it becomes clear that this drive is bittersweet for the singer. The lyrics reveal that he's haunted by memories of a past relationship. The backroad used to be a place where he and his ex-girlfriend spent time together. Now, every time he's on one, he's reminded of her. The singer wishes he could go back in time and stay in town, before he fell in love and had his heart broken.

The song captures the mixture of joy and heartache that can come with memories of past romance. The backroad was once a source of happiness, but now it's a painful reminder of what he's lost. Through these lyrics, Schneider conveys the complexity of human emotions and how often, things we once thought were good can become a source of pain and regret.

Dylan is destined to do amazing things and I’m sure of it. He’s gonna get big. I’ve been supporting since around 2015, sharing his videos on Facebook, and just continuous support! Keep doing what you’re doing, Dylan!

Holdyn Barder

I’ve been following Dylan for a long time, since his YouTube days, and I can’t think of many other country artists as equally determined and creative as Dylan. And now hopping on with FGL’s final leg with Round Here Records? This man is onto GREAT achievements and this is JUST the beginning. Proud of this G. Keep killing it.

Can't thank you enough for supporting him!!

@stulce #9 He is currently on tour with FGL for the remainder of the summer. He already had his deal with Interscope, and he just signed a joint venture (unsure of the actual terms and conditions) with Round Here Records, too (FGL's label). So he has Interscope Records and Round Here Records.

Holdyn Barder what exactly do you mean about FGL? Do they have a record label and signed Dylan Schneider or did Dylan sign with the same label that FGL did? I’m just confused and curious
