Schneider was a fan of pop music and hip hop when he was a child, but later he was attracted to the narrative aspect of country music and began singing at age 14. After meeting Brett Eldredge at a concert in the singer's hometown (Paris, Illinois), Schneider was invited to the stage by Eldredge to perform a song during the latter's performance at Terre Haute. He then began writing and playing songs in both Indiana and Nashville, Tennessee. Between 2014 and 2016, Schneider published a series of videos on YouTube of him making versions of popular country songs, which earned him attention online. The first video was published on May 18, 2014.
Grew up Slower
Dylan Schneider Lyrics

Where the church bells ring
And strong love grows
She grew up good
She grew up slow
Like American honey
Steady as a preacher
Couldn't wait to get going
But wasn't quite ready to leave
So innocent, pure and sweet
American honey
There's a wild, wild whisper
Blowin' in the wind
Callin' out my name
Like a long lost friend
Oh, I miss those days
As the years go by
Oh, nothin' sweeter than summertime
And American honey
Get caught in the race of this crazy life
Tryin' to be everything
Can make you lose your mind
I just wanna go back in time
To American honey
There's a wild, wild whisper
Blowin' in the wind
Callin' out my name
Like a long lost friend
Oh, I miss those days
As the years go by
Oh, nothin' sweeter than summertime
And American honey
Gone for so long now
I gotta get back to her somehow
To American honey
There's a wild wild whisper
Blowin' in the wind
Callin' out my name
Like a long lost friend
Oh, I miss those days
As the years go by
Nothin' sweeter than summertime
And American honey
And American honey
Ooh
The lyrics to Dylan Schneider's song, Grew up Slower, describe a girl who grew up on the side of the road in a small town where the church bells ring and strong love grows. She is described as someone who grew up good and slow, just like American honey. The song goes on to describe her as being steady as a preacher and free as a weed. The girl couldn't wait to go out into the world, but wasn't quite ready to leave her small town behind. The lyrics describe her as innocent, pure, and sweet, just like American honey.
The song goes on to talk about a wild whisper that blows in the wind, calling out the singer's name like a long lost friend. The singer reminisces about missing the sweet days of summer and American honey as he gets caught up in the race of life. All he wants to do is go back in time to those sweet summer days of his youth. Throughout the song, there is a longing to return to that simple, innocent time in life when everything was sweet and easy.
