Energy
EARTHWIND & FIRE Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When I said that I don't need love
I was joking because I see what I've become without it
And I've had enough
I'm so sick of denying that I was afraid to be trying new emotions for two
Now I'm up and ready to start again
To break free
Wherever I look, I'm looking at you
Need to feel a little amity
Need to feel ELECTRICITY
Woah
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
To move a heavy heart
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
To move me out of the dark
Woah
When I said that I don't need love
I was joking because
I see what life's become without it
And I've had enough
He was a chump
I broke free
Now I can feel your gravity
Pulling me closer my baby
It's you and me
But drive can pass you by, so easily
Need to feel a little amity
Need to feel ELECTRICITY
Woah
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
To move a heavy heart
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
To move me out of the dark
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
To move a heavy heart
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
To move me out of the dark
Energy, energy, who's got the energy
Energy
The lyrics to Earth, Wind & Fire's song "Energy" depict a person who initially claimed that they didn't need love, but now realizes the emptiness they feel without it. They express their dissatisfaction with denying themselves the experience of new emotions and admit to being afraid. However, they have reached a turning point and are now ready to break free from their past perceptions and start anew. They acknowledge the presence of someone special in their life, someone who brings them happiness and acts as a gravitational force, pulling them closer. The lyrics emphasize the importance of energy and its ability to move a heavy heart and illuminate the darkness. It conveys a sense of yearning for connection, vitality, and the power to transform, ultimately finding the strength to embrace love.

Nobody remembers that Earth Wind and Fire where The Salty Peppers before they became Earth Wind & Fire. My brother God rest his soul had every Earth Wind and Fire albums ever put out. He was a huge fan, and he didn't even know. I played one of their songs "The La La Song" and he didn't like it. The Salty Peppers were super underrated

I have to admit that I first heard this at the RIGHT time in my life. I was listening to Miles Davis "Bitches Brew", "On the Corner", and his other electric material...and when I heard THIS, OMG!!! This is EWF at the farthest reaches of space. "Serpentine Fire" was OUT THERE, but they were OUT THERE FOR REAL with this one! That wild drum intro, the poem, then sliding into some sloppy ghetto FUNK, and then they just "run the voodoo down" and stomp it TO DEATH.
