I'm A Believer
EMF Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all of my dreams

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace, of doubt in my mind
I'm in love, and I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried
No not if I tried

I thought love was more or less a giving thing
Seems the more I gave the less I got
What's the use in tryin'
All you get is pain
When I needed sunshine I got rain

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace, of doubt in my mind
I'm in love and I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried
Not if I tried

Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all of my dreams
What's the use of trying
All you get is pain
When I wanted sunshine I got rain

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace, of doubt in my mind
I'm in love and I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried
No not if I tried
Not if I tried, no

'Cause I'm a believer
Yes I'm a believer

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to EMF's "I'm A Believer" describe a story of a person who was once skeptical about love and discouraged by past experiences, but who suddenly finds true love and becomes a "believer." The opening lines demonstrate the doubt and disappointment the singer has experienced in the past with love. However, the chorus suggests the transformative power of experiencing true love, as the singer proclaims "not a trace of doubt in my mind" and affirms his belief in love. The second verse delves into the previous efforts the singer has made to find love, but notes that they have resulted in pain and frustration. Despite this, the singer ultimately finds their true love, leading to the confident repetition of the chorus at the end of the song.

Overall, the song is an optimistic and relatable ode to the power of love to transform someone's perspectives and outlook on life. The song also uses a classic pop and rock sound, with jangly guitar riffs and upbeat drums, which helps to underscore the hopeful message of the lyrics.

Looooooool this was brilliant. I was ten in 95, then in 2006, it was played at my mum's cousin's wedding reception. Everyone went mental. Darren sadly isn't with us anymore but great memories x

The early version of Shrek (that they showed to advanced audiences) used the Reeves and Mortimor version. They also used the Reeves and Mortimor version in the trailers. However, at the last minute they decided to re-recorded it, so the vocals were stronger. However, because they wanted to stay faithful to the original piece of music they used in advanced screenings, they just copied it note for note

"I'm a Believer" is a song composed by Neil Diamond and recorded by The Monkees in 1966 with the lead vocals by Micky Dolenz. The single, produced by Jeff Barry, hit the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week ending December 31, 1966 and remained there for seven weeks,[2] becoming the last No. 1 hit of 1966 and the biggest-selling record for all of 1967. Because of 1,051,280 advance orders, it went gold within two days of release. It is one of the fewer than forty all-time singles to have sold 10 million (or more) physical copies worldwide. Not this version though. All hail EMF and Bob and Vic.

Now I know why this never charted in the US. They sound like we did at a 1976 frat party … after the 3rd keg
