ET-KING is a seven-member hip-hop group (five MCs, one DJ and a presenter). The group's members are from various areas of the country, but are based on Osaka. Saw him perform this on stage before he died. He wanted to tour to selected cities with this amazing musical. He was frail, BUT, when it cam to this moment he took full control of the stage. Standing ovation for what seemed forever. When the music stopped, he waited when the applause ended, looked to the audience and he looked back to the young lady playing Anna, and said, with great command, “ONE MORE TIME!” The music was stronger, louder and he set the stage to blaze!! I tear up just thinking of that moment.

Irene Sharaff did win the Oscar for Best Costume Design (Color) for this movie. She also designed the original costumes for the stage version. This dress is near identical to the stage one and Gertrude Lawrence who originated the role of Anna and died during the run was buried in it.

This movie, and particularly this song, was my favorite... I would clear the furniture out of the living room, take my daughters hands, and we would twirl around the room to dance together. Her smiles, laughter and giggles will be in my heart forever. You see... she had cerebral palsy. And I needed extra room to dance with her, in her wheelchair. She passed away in 2018, at the age of 53. She was, and still is, the love of my life.

I got to go see him play this part on Broadway just before he past away. He could only do a few steps of this dance, but the audience stood and gave him a standing ovation. It was wonderful to see the respect he was given. He will always own this part.

I fell in love as a young girl. I so wanted to dance this with him! I was blessed to see him in Chicago for that final tour. I remember being mesmerized watching him. At one point someone in the audience was taking flash photos. He was not happy as it is not allowed. Never breaking character, he hold them to cease or he would leave the stage. It was the coolest thing and thankfully they stopped taking pictures. At the end of the performance, they brought our a cake and sang happy birthday to him. I was thrilled to know we shared a birthday. It was amazing to see him.

Not long before he passed away, I saw Yul Brynner as the King when the nearby university hosted three shows. He was wonderful. The entire production was, really, but he commanded the stage. Although the dance wasn’t nearly as energetic as in the film, his posture and blazing dark eyes were mesmerizing. As others have said, he was born to play the King.

Probably the most remembered scene in the film. It goes from a gentle flirtation to absolute fireworks at 3:09, when the king merely utters, "were not holding two hands like this." I saw this in a theater at 18 and remember 'uh-ohs' and hollers from the audience, perhaps all of us experiencing "sexual tension" in a film for the first time. And Yul Brynner, chrome-dome and all, had the swagger, innocence, and cock-of-the-walk approval of every woman in that theater- including my date. And as far as the lovely Deborah Kerr was concerned, I was just impressed that she could polka in a champagne-pewter hoop skirt. What a scene!!

I don't know if anyone will see this comment, I know this video came out a while ago. But this Musical hold such a special place in my heart. My last theater performance that I was in before I graduated from high school was The King and I. In which I had the honor of playing the role of Anna Leonowens, so many amazing memories were made in this play. And this scene in itself was one of the most terrifying and exciting things I had to do, (just by watching the tension in this scene, I'm guessing you can guess why), this movie overall is beautiful with such soul touching songs, this is something I will never forget.

We performed "The King and I" my senior year in High school (1972), and when this song was performed, they got a standing ovation. I'll remember those songs from this musical for the rest of my days and will have fond memories of all I learned while doing the tasks I was assigned (besides my minor role as the sea captain who brought them to Siam), and how many things pertaining to stagecraft we were taught while we worked together to put on a successful show.

Deborah Kerr is one of my all time favorites...From Here to Eternity, Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison, and especially The Sundowners. She would have been 100 years old later this year...on September 30, 2021.

I loved her too. Such a wonderfully talented actress and to me she epitomised an elegant and most beautiful lady. I loved her in all those movies too , I would add An affair to Remember. Gosh she had some great leading men too. They dont make movies or movie stars like this anymore.

We had the pleasure of seeing Yul Brynner 40 years ago at Masonic Ordatorium in Detroit Michigan.
During the Shall We Dance scene, the entire audience rose, applauded and roared with delight!!!
It truly was a momentous occasion!

I have always been a BIG fan of Yul Brenner so for me to see him in person when the play came to Boston back in the 80's was one of the highlights of my humdrum life. What a talent and later on when he knew he had cancer from smoking he b4 his death made a commercial telling plp not to smoke. WHAT A REAL MAN HE WAS. Rest easy YUL and know u r missed and will be remembered ALWAYS.

I saw Yul Brynner live in San Francisco in the 80s while he was dying of lung cancer. I was in high school. My parents had seen him live in the 50s in NYC. Wonderful.

Yul Brynner has an almost Superhero way about him in this character. Not just a larger than life vibe but a mystical sage warrior aura. I love it eventhough it was far from realistic. 😊👍

What a great scene. It was a role of a lifetime for both of them. Yul Brunner won the Oscar for this film and went on to play the role on stage over 4,500 times! I remember seeing this for the first time as a kid and falling in love with musicals. The King & I holds a very dear place in my heart.

Methinks the dress was cut higher in the front to allow for ample space fore the feet to find the floor. In fact the scene prepares us for the great turn around the ballroom. Anna gathers the skirt in her right hand to show the floor in front. During the polka the leader does not make many tiny moves. There is easily eighteen inches between his feet and hers. It is a though the male gives the skirt room.

What a scene! They really don't make them like that anymore.
I only happened upon this clip, without intention this morning, but I'm so glad I did.
It took me back to when I was but a boy, in 1979, and I went to see the stage show at the London Palladium, in the famous West End, with my late parents. I was completely captivated by what I was seeing and hearing.
The memory lives on, as I often mention it if I find myself talking about musicals, or theatre with friends. The reason for that, is that not only is it a happy family memory from my childhood, but Yul Brynner was playing the King of Siam. Over 40 years later, I still feel privileged to have seen him reprise the role and I think I always will 😊❤

I haven't watched this movie in YEARS (nor have I seen any other rendition of this show). I completely forgot that they were going for a polka dance in this scene! I don't think I payed too close attention to it the first time. I'm German-American and my grandparents loved dancing the polka together. Odd choice of dance for a romantic scene, it's not a romantic dance at all! 😂😂😂 Gotta love Rogers and Hammerstein (with that last name I'm extra surprised 😂) shows! Honestly though that's a fun scene to watch! Love it!

Yul Brynner will always be the King for me. What an outstanding actor he was. And Deborah is absolutely brilliant in this film, their chemistry were amazing!! And of course, Marni's voice is so, so lovely! Love this film so much, wish I could have born in their era so that I could see this man performing this on Broadway live!!

He actually won an Oscar and two Tony's for the role of The King. He played the role on stage over 2,000 times in his career. He will always be The King to me, as well.

I saw Yul in the live version shortly before he died. I am a session singer, but not a Broadway fan at ALL, but he was simply magnificent. Her dress was a lavender colour and it looked so beautiful. We had third row seats and it was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience.

Yul was the King. I got to see the King and I the last time Yul took it on the road before his death. It was simply magical. I must share that I saw Lou Diamond Phillips in the play on line and he was excellant. I believe it was a tribute in part to Yul Brenner too. RIP Yul you were one of a kind Thank you for an amazing memory .

I admire how expressive Mr. Brynner was with his hands and feet. Even before he began to dance, feom the beginning of this scene, there was great economy of movement. He was as a master ballerina - each placement of hand or foot was deliberate, an extension of the scene; he had such great sense of stage presence!
