Pretty Maids All in a Row
Eagles Lyrics

Hi there, how are 'ya?
It's been a long time
Seems like we've come a long way
My, but we learn so slow
And heroes, they come and they go
And leave us behind as if
We're supposed to know why

Why do we give up our hearts to the past?
And why must we grow up so fast?

And all you wishing well fools with your fortunes
Someone should send you a rose
With love from a friend,
It's nice to hear from you again
And the storybook comes to a close
Gone are the ribbons and bows
Things to remember, places to go
Pretty maids all in a row

Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo

Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo

And heroes they come and they go
And leave us behind
As if we're s'posed to know
W-h-y...

Why do we give up our hearts to the past?

And all you wishing well fools with your fortunes
Someone should send you a rose
With love from a friend

The raw talent that each individual Eagle possesses is phenomenal. And as a group, they are incomparable.

👍🙏🤟

Tony Maselli

This song cuts through me like a knife. Most underrated Eagles song imo.

Mooselola

@Tony Maselli you two are both right. Joe Vitale and Joe Walsh wrote it for Hotel California album specifically

Jeffrey

Me too! This song reminds me of a stripper I foolishly fell in love with. She danced to this song for me.

Broken love.

This is my all time favorite Eagles song. I could play it on a loop and it would give me a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye every time. I bought the Hotel California album when I was a teenager in 1980. I still have the record but it's warped and worn out, so I now have it on CD. Every time I hear this song I think about my best friend growing up. We did everything together, including singing along to all the songs on Hotel California, we knew them all by heart. I really miss my big dummy buddy David, who took his own life 5 years ago after learning he had terminal cancer. I'm 56 and he would have been 57 this year. What a lot of people don't know is Joe Walsh wrote the line "the story book comes to a close, gone are the ribbons and bows" in reference to his infant daughter, who was killed in a car crash in the early '70's. That makes this song that much more poignant and heartbreaking. But what a song it is.

Bought mine in '77 and this is definitely one of my all time favourites. I'm 62 now and still has the same effect 🎶 🎼 🎵 🎸
