Earl Sweatshirt Lyrics

Petal to the metal, lost flint, it was sugar in gas tank
My cushion was a bosom on bad days
There's not a black woman I can't thank
You called crying when I told you these the last days
It's all mine, could have split the last plate
Nigga's didn't have faith, so I stopped trying
I apologize, and we outta time
Please get ya alibis straight, you ain't gotta lie
It's a tradition did it my way
No sense of looking at the sky
Trace elements meddle with minds
Mind-state live fizzes and fires
Niggas with live ammunitions in the stick on the highway
I only get better with time
That's what my mom say, the doc' say, he to kill him this time
Oy vey, well here I go, foot on the line
What's mine, what good is it if it's not, you sick of it
Sicky, sicky, niggas wasn't shit
Face looking like I stumbled out of bed, hundred dollar jet
I piss problems out the bottom
Empty mama said she used to see my father in me
I said I was not offended
Press can navy med, like on the bed
Living life like a nigga put a price on my head
Bless, this how we on it
If you need it and I want it better come prepared
Going it through it like prayers in the night sky
You look like a chair when you floating up
Hand on like a goalie with the puck, don't need any luck
See the goal so where I was, lonesome as I was

@damon Man earl really has evolved like ty

Tyler found his sound with neo soul hip hop

And earl found his sound with lofi experimental hip hop

And both of them have peaked because of it

Tyler with flower boy his first great album and igor his best work

Earl with some rap songs which was amazing and this new EP  which is also great but i am dying to talk about this EP so if you dont like long comments stop here

If you don't mind long comments most tracks I really love all but one and i don't this track why well for starters is extremely rare to have a bad earl verse so then what makes a bad earl song?

production does. But first lets dive into the intro track 74

On this track earl is giving us an update on how his life has been since last year. Nothing really special about this track it's good though. Earls goes into talking about common problems like a failed relationship

Opposites attract opulence,

 the mud wouldn’t stick

Violence in the streets and social media

more the merrier, phone got you livin' vicarious

Ice melting 'cause it's so hot

The veil lifts, the pain salient

Niggas started choppin' at the road blocks

Overall i think it's a good track

8.5/10

Now back to what makes a bad earl song. It isnt even bad that bad its just for as earl can be it seems bad but its still mostly the production but take the track EAST  it to simple like its just an accordion and some synths underneath you could have added some more layering to the track and added some slow drums but why use an accordion as a sample (unless your madlib where the DOOM fans at) im not hating on for being too simplistic i mean look at playboy carti's die lit it works because its simple its not meant to be anilized its meant to be a head banger party type of music and that's why it good like R.I.P a synth melody kicks snare bass and it's an instant head banger. But earl just talks about how he didnt love his girl and his dad and grandmas death 7.5/10

MTOMB is my favorite track from the E.P production is just so beautifully crafted by The Alchemist. It's another song about Earls depression take this line

Told my nigga Miles we might gon' be aight

Guess I was right, twenty-five was a quarter to life

I'm on it, I strike, trials

So this means that I think earl is already 1/4 through his life and maybe he wanted to do more within those 25 year or maybe he's been feelin trapped all those years like the line from some rap songs nobody told me I could leave

Earl thinks nobody was trying to help him with his depression and its why he feels so trapped like no matter what he does can't get better. 10/10

OD is kinda tricky from a production standpoint i know i love it but i don't know why its very lofi and definitely in the same vein as lossie from srs. So this track is about how earl turned to alcoholism to cope with most likely his dad's passing and feeling lonely.

I can't give enough, shilajit in my sippy cup

Healing cuts, but real-really

I'm refilling the pump, no concealing it

So these lines are kinda obviously about his drinking problem due to depression and even though its not helping he keeps getting drunker and cant help but think about the bad things.

True and livin', lonesome, pugilistic moments, riveting

So this line is about earls loneliness hes most likely living by himself at the time and maybe his thoughts are getting the better of him and beating him up LIKE A BOXER. 9.5/10

El toro combo meal is about self reflection regret and lookin back towards the past with a feature from mavi ngl i have no idea who that nigga is. Mavi opening line is

Lost my dawg to the staircase, took the highest spot on the podium

So hes saying how one of his friends died and lost to the staircase could be in reference to heaven and the podium as he is now openly speaking on his friend's death at his funeral.

Another line

I promised I'd bury the grudge, preparing the carrion grub

Larry Oops, I was lost in the alley, in the air but not sunk

I spun 'til the lost of my grandmama buried the dunk

Send 'bout a prayer a month, through the above

His friend that died he feels regret for holding something against them and he also goes into his grandma dying as well prayin for both of them once a month and maybe he regrets doing something or not doing something with his grandma before she died. Now to Earls verse one line is this

keep the tears out my mind reach

I put my fears in a box like a prayer that you won't read

Spirited Away the whole thing

So earl is talking about keeping these emotions bottled up and he trying not to think about them. Its also about trying to escape from these thoughts as earl reference the 1998 masterpiece spirited away. If you haven't seen this movie its about how spirits escape to this abandoned amusement park to get away from "the earthly realm" earl uses alcoholism to escape his thoughts.

9/10

Tisk tisk/cookies so on this track its two parts tisk tisk and cookies i dont know the title connection maybe its in reference to his alcohol abuse but earl goes into friendships and growing apart because this friend did earl wrong in the past but earl still remembers and earls friend is trying to play it off like he didn't do anything. Thats what this line means.

Promise I'll never forget

And I promise I knew what it is

Part 2 cookies

Its really the same thing earl freind did him dirty and this is him going into detail about it.

Just like your daddy skin, dark

I see your nigga too bad he a mark

I see real nigga just jab, he dont bark

I see you tryna rekindle the spark.

This earls old friend is trying his best to get earls attention and trying to be friends again because he's got money and he famous now but earls not buying his bullshit he can see through him. Also earl knows his friend isn't being real with him and he said something that should've been said which goes back to the tisk tisk chorus on how somebody snitched.

10/10

Now i would do the last track but i dont think its worth talking about buts its as good as the intro track an 8.5/10 for the whole album im just do the average for my track scores and it was to a track average of 9 and thats what im feelin on this new earl E.P

Fav tracks everyone except EAST

Least fav EAST

Pedal to the metal
Lost footin', it was sugar in my gas tank
My cushion was a bosom on bad days
It's not a black woman I can't thank

Apologize, and we outta time
Please get ya alibi straight, you ain't gotta lie
Shook tradition, did it my way
No sense in looking in the sky
Trace elements meddle with minds
Mind-state live, fissures and fires
Niggas with live ammunitions in the stick on the highway
I only get better with time
That's what my mom say
To dodge Satan, say to kill him this time, oy vey
Well here I go, foot on the line
What's mine, what good is it if it's not, you shook a bit
Sookie, sookie niggas wasn't shit
Face looking like I stumbled out of a pit, hundred dollar chip
I piss problems out, the bottle empty
Mama said she used to see my father in me
Said I was not offended
Press, King, Navy, Med, MIKE on the bench
Living life like a nigga put a price on my head
Bless, this how we on it
If you need it and I want it, better come prepared
Going through it like prayers in the night sky
You look like a chair when you folding up
Hands on like a goalie with the puck, don't need any luck
See the ghost of where I was, lonesome as I was
