RISE
Earth Caller Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh no, there's nowhere to go
We can't take the bridge
They've blocked all the roads
So cold, in this prison; my home
We know that we're trapped
We just can't see the walls

Hope? No, it was lost long ago
So we take what we can
And we make it our own
Alone, the only way I know
They want me to fail
But I can't so I wont

This just the way it is
The way it's always been
Fighting each other for their scraps or so it seems
I must break free
But know not how to breach
the walls surrounding me
are closing in on me

And I can't fucking breathe
Nor can I even sleep
Must we all suffer just to live on our knees?
I must stand tall
Never accept defeat
The walls they built will fucking crumble for me

Oh no, there's nowhere to go
We can't take the bridge
They've blocked all the roads
So cold, in this prison; my home
We know that we're trapped
We just can't see the walls

Hope? No, it was lost long ago
So we take what we can
And we make it our own
Alone, the only way I know
They want me to fail
But I can't so I wont

Turns out the way it is
You never get to leave
The shit I done and seen
Will always follow me
And every time I sleep
I dream I hear a thousand people screams
It puts the fight in me
I wont go quietly

The people rise with me
We suffered silently
But no longer shall we live and die on our knees
So I stand tall
Never accept defeat
The walls they built will fucking crumble for me

This how they say
what they want me to be
turns out my path has already been chosen for me
Yeah this is how they say
What they want me to be
And they ask me how I feel
I still don't feel a fucking thing

Oh no, there's nowhere to go
We can't take the bridge
They've blocked all the roads
So cold, in this prison; my home
We know that we're trapped
We just can't see the walls

Hope? No, it was lost long ago
So we take what we can
And we make it our own
Alone, the only way I know

They want me to fail
But I can't so I wont

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Earth Caller's song "Rise" talk about being confined in a place where there seems to be no escape, both physically and mentally. The first verse sets up the scene of being trapped with no options left. The singer is cold, and there seems to be no hope in sight. The second verse is a perspective of resignation towards life, where the singer takes what they can and makes it their own. The chorus repeats the idea of being trapped, and even though it appears there is no hope, it's essential to keep on fighting and not accept defeat. The bridge pinpoints the idea of not being able to rest, suffering in silence, but using those screams to fight and rise.

The song is one of Earth Caller's most streamed tracks and has been played over a million times on Spotify alone. It demonstrates their pioneering work in the hardcore punk/metalcore genre that's been influential to many Australian hardcore bands that have come after them. "Rise" is part of the band's album "Crystal Death," released in 2017, that's regarded as their best body of work up to date. Though they have been categorized as an Australian band, the band members are of Polish, British and Singaporean heritage. They've traveled to countries like Japan, America, and Malaysia to perform.
