Energy
Earth Wind & Fire Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As we float through time as energy
Seeking no place, filling all space with song
Creating, giving and integrating all moods
Happiness and sorrow, joy and pain
Remain the same as always, as energy
Breathing air filled with prana
Awaiting the timeless times of Nirvana
To speak and learn secrets of life
Energy, now we can call on you
Because we love you
We call on you because we love you

Love is what we've got now
Let's live it every day
Love is what we've got now
Let's live it every day
When someone's in trouble
You just can't turn him away
Just can't turn him away
You just can't turn him away
Just can't turn him away, no
Don't turn your back, listen to me

Lots of people dying
Ain't no cause at all
Mama's baby cryin'
Ain't no love at all

*Come on, people, people
It's time to begin
Give love from your heart
You'll always have a friend
Give love from your heart
You'll always have a friend

Come on now [Repeat: x1]

Give love, love now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Earth Wind & Fire's song Energy speak to the human experience of existence as energy. The song suggests that we are constantly moving through time as energy, creating and integrating all kinds of moods, including happiness, sorrow, joy, and pain. These moods, the song suggests, remain consistent in the face of the eternal passage of time. The song goes on to suggest that we can learn the secrets of life by calling on this energy - a kind of universal life force or spirit.

The second half of the song focuses on the importance of love in the world. The song suggests that love is what we have now and is what we should focus on living each day. When someone is in trouble or when there is suffering in the world, we must not turn our backs on them but rather give love from the heart. The song calls on people to begin giving love from the heart, promising that doing so will always result in having a friend.

Overall, The song's message is a call to action - to be mindful of the ways in which we are all connected as energy and to give love to one another in order to build a more compassionate and supportive world.

You really have to love the early 70s. Only then could you imagine tracks as far out as this, or Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow.

Nobody remembers that Earth Wind and Fire where The Salty Peppers before they became Earth Wind & Fire. My brother God rest his soul had every Earth Wind and Fire albums ever put out. He was a huge fan, and he didn't even know. I played one of their songs "The La La Song" and he didn't like it. The Salty Peppers were super underrated

@Odawg96

I have to admit that I first heard this at the RIGHT time in my life. I was listening to Miles Davis "Bitches Brew", "On the Corner", and his other electric material...and when I heard THIS, OMG!!! This is EWF at the farthest reaches of space. "Serpentine Fire" was OUT THERE, but they were OUT THERE FOR REAL with this one! That wild drum intro, the poem, then sliding into some sloppy ghetto FUNK, and then they just "run the voodoo down" and stomp it TO DEATH.
