By the time of their debut album, 1980's Crocodiles - a moderate UK hit - the drum machine had been replaced by Pete de Freitas. Their next, the critically-acclaimed Heaven Up Here, reached the Top Ten in 1981, as did 1983's Porcupine and '84's Ocean Rain. Singles like "The Killing Moon" (later used in the soundtrack to Donnie Darko, a film whose imagery owed much to the artwork of the band's early records.), "Silver," "Bring on the Dancing Horses," and "The Cutter" helped keep the group in the public eye as they took a brief hiatus in the late 1980s. Their 1987 self-titled LP was a small American hit, their only LP to have significant sales there.
McCulloch quit the band in 1988. De Freitas was killed in a motorcycle accident one year later. The others decided to continue, recruiting Noel Burke to replace McCulloch on vocals in Reverberation (1990), which did not generate much excitement among fans or critics. Burke, Sargeant and Pattinson split after that, but the surviving three fourths of the original band reformed in 1997 and released Evergreen (1997), What are You Going to Do with Your Life? (1999), Flowers (2001) , Siberia (2005), and the latest addition, The Fountain (2009). The group's old audience liked the return to their classic sound, and they also managed to gain a number of new, younger listeners.
Echo and the Bunnymen were managed early on by Bill Drummond, who went on to be a founder member of The KLF.
Rust

Down amongst the dust
I need someone to help me
You need someone to trust
There's something with these tears
Turning me to rust
I need someone to help me
Yeah I need someone to touch
Give me one more try
And I'll come flaking back to you
I wish that you were here
I wish that it was true
[Chorus]
I can feel the stars shooting through my heart like rain
Leaving on the scars where the pleasure turns to pain
Point me in a light
Bright and shiny in right direction
And then take me home again
Just when you thing it's over
Just when you think it's done
Out of every nowhere
You never see it come
I know the lines are showing
I can't keep them in
Like everybody's story
It's written on the skin
Give me one last try
And I'll make it up to you
Wish that you were here
Wish that I was true
[Chorus]
I wish that you were here
Down amongst my dust
I need someone to help me
You need someone to trust
There's something with these tears
Turning me to rust
I wish that you were here
I wish that it was ours
[Chorus]
Everything's gonna be all right
"Rust" is a song by Echo & the Bunnymen that describes the feeling of being lost and in need of guidance and comfort. The song starts with the singer wishing for someone to be with them, someone to trust, and to help them through their emotional struggles. The tears that they shed are corroding them like rust, and they need someone to touch them and make them feel alive again. The chorus of the song talks about the pain that comes with pleasure, and the hope that one day they will be pointed in the right direction and taken back home. The end of the song emphasizes that everything will be all right.
The lyrics of "Rust" are poignant and explore feelings of vulnerability and the need for companionship. The song suggests that the singer's emotional state is corroding them from the inside, much like how rust corrodes metal. The words "I wish that you were here" are repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the need for someone to be close and provide comfort. The lines "I can feel the stars shooting through my heart like rain / Leaving on the scars where the pleasure turns to pain" suggest that the singer is struggling with intense emotions that are both beautiful and painful.

Pertenece a una etapa más melódica e íntima. He tenido la suerte de verles dos veces en vivo, en 2007 y 2009. Ya tengo ganas de verles de nuevo...Bunnymen forever.
