Echo a The Bunnymen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Would you sympathize
Could you sympathize?
I'm jumbled up
Maybe I'm losing my touch
I'm jumbled up
Maybe I'm losing my touch
But you know I didn't have it anyway
Won't you come on down to my
Won't you come on down to my rescue
Things are wrong
Things are going wrong
Can you tell that in a song
I don't know what I want anymore
First I want a kiss and then I want it all
Won't you come on down to my
Won't you come on down to my rescue
Rescue, rescue, rescue
Things are wrong
Things are going wrong
Can you tell that in a song
Losing sense of those harder things
Is this the blues I'm singing?
Is this the blues I'm singing?
Is this the blues I'm singing?
Is this the blues I'm singing?
Won't you come on down to my
Won't you come on down to my rescue
Is this the blues I'm singing
Won't you come on down to my rescue
Won't you come on down to my
Won't you come on down to my
Won't you come on down to my
Won't you come on down to my
(Is this the blues I'm singing?)
Won't you come on down to my
(Rescue)
Won't you come on down to my
(Is this the blues I'm singing?)
(Rescue)
Won't you come on down to my
(Is this the blues I'm singing?)
(Rescue)
Won't you come on down to my
(Is this the blues I'm singing?)
(Rescue)
Won't you come on down to my
(Is this the, I'm singing)
Won't you come on down to my
(Is this the, I'm singing)
The song "Rescue" by Echo and the Bunnymen is a plea for help from someone who is lost and confused. The singer is admitting that they don't know what they want and that they are feeling jumbled up and like they are losing their touch. They are essentially asking for someone to come and save them, to rescue them from the turmoil they are currently experiencing. The lyrics are a mix of vulnerability and desperation, with the singer begging for someone to understand and sympathize with them.
The repeated refrain of "Won't you come on down to my rescue" drives home the point that the singer is in need of help and support. They have hit a low point and are searching for a way out, but can't seem to find it on their own. The line "Is this the blues I'm singing?" hints at a deeper struggle with depression and a feeling of hopelessness. The singer is trapped in their own emotions and is searching for a way to break free.
Overall, the song is a poignant expression of the universal human experience of feeling lost and in need of help. It's a powerful reminder that sometimes we all need someone to come to our rescue and provide support when we can't do it ourselves.

I saw Echo in the Queens Hall in Edinburgh a few years ago. I was in front of the stage and was shouting for rescue. Ian said no.. its not on the set list. I shouted again. He turned to the band and said what do you think?
They played it!!

I got Backstage in 83 with my girlfriend by running up the wrong stairs whilst the bouncers chased us and stumbled into a room and it was the dressing room of the band. I couldn't begin to tell you how well we were treated as young fans. The band couldn't do enough for us. I got my belt signed and my coat and ticket stubb by them including Pete Defreitas who incidentally was such a lovely soul. I still have the ticket stubb to this Day. R..I.P Pete and thank you
