Sometimes on these Echos, the check engine light with code P0012 is often triggered by a clogged variable valve timing oil control valve solonoid. One bolt, unclip electrical, slides easily out of engine, the part is near $100 aftermarket or double from Toyota, but often solves a check engine light.

2 years later and this just help me. I already took out the fan on the car tho. But it made troubleshooting the fan problem easier. Thank you very much.

Its 5 min to remove that check engine light bulb. They all light up with some evap code.

hey did you ever find out what was wrong with the echo? once you bypassed it did it run hot anymore?

The compressor was froze. But the engine fan never came on. So i bypassed the switch and it forced the fan to come on. I sold it shortly after. So never fixed on my end.

Yes, with the AC Off this bypasses that and makes the fans run directly once the ignition is on.

What's the purpose of the a/c cutting off the cooling fan, I wonder? It seems crazy, but thanks for the info.

Its possible the switch is run thru the fan. So when the ac doesnt work theres no reason for the fan to come on.

Can you tell me the name of that Green Wire your using to do that ? It turns out I have the same car a 2000 Toyota Echo Stick & the Plug melted from the coolant sensor on the bottom of the radiator so now I'm trying to find the same plug or maybe another coolant sensor with a different plug that works the same way. But my fan doesn't run when I turn the fan switch in the car. And even without the switch on I don't think the fan runs at all. My Echo overheated once already and I'm trying to prevent that from happening again. But I still need it as my daily to drive until I fix it.

You can always wire power and ground straight from the battery to the fan to see if it works. Or you can buu an after market fan to mount and wire up which as these cars get older may be the best option

Thousanddollarcarguy no I didn’t check the fuses and relays but ima check those and see if it’s the problem thanks you for replying and helping me out I’ll definitely check the relays yes cus I let the car run for 10 mins it started overheating and the fans never came on so the fan works and I love your videos man your a big help

@pedro alicea im guessing you already did this but have you check or replaced the fan relays or fuses? If you already did the thermostat thats the hard part.

No it’s not hot inside the car but when I turn on the car the fan never came on and I changed the thermostat and I thought it was that but I guess it wasn’t and I drove from Massachusetts to Florida I just moved to Florida when I was driving down here it never overheated but one I hit Georgia

Had left the what now? I really can't get past the pronunciation of 'radiator'. I had a 2000 echo coupe with its own issues and what not, but no issues with the 'radiator' or engine

Almost all electric fans are just 1 power wire and one ground. And if you apply power to one of the 2 wires and ground to the other it will just spin in 1 direction or the other. Imagine if you apply power one way it will spin the fan clockwise. If you apply power to the opposite wire then it will spin counter clockwise. Just trace the fan wire in the harness to a connector and try applying 12v from the battery and a good ground to the chassis.
