Misty
Eckstine Billy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
Ah, I'm walkin' on a cloud
I can't understand, Lord
I'm misty holdin' your hand
Walk my way
And a thousand violins begin to play
That music I hear, Lord
I'm misty the moment you're near
You can say that you're leadin' me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't ya notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm followin' you
Ooh, on my own
Should I wander through this wonderland alone, now
Never knowin' my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, Lord
I'm misty, and too much in love
You can say that you're leadin' me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't ya notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm followin' you
Ooh, on my own
Should I wander through this wonderland alone, now
Never knowin' my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, Lord
I'm misty, and too much in love
(Misty) too much in love
(Misty) too much in love
(Misty)
(Misty) too much in love
The lyrics to Eckstine Billy's song Misty describe a feeling of pure joy and contentment that the persona experiences when they are with their lover. They feel like they are "walking on a cloud" and they are "misty" - a term that can be interpreted as being enraptured or in love. The persona is aware that they might be considered a fool for following their lover, but they don't mind because being lost in love feels so good to them. The persona is also aware that they might be mistaken about their lover's intentions, but again, they don't mind because the feeling of being with their lover is worth it. When the persona has to face the possibility of being alone again, they feel lost without their lover's guidance and love, even in the simplest of things like distinguishing their hat from their glove.
The lyrics of Misty have been interpreted in various ways, with some people viewing the song as a representation of the complex nature of relationships. The lyrics suggest that the persona is willing to overlook their own self-interest and let their emotions guide them towards their lover, even if they might be hurt in the process. The lyrics also suggest that the persona feels vulnerable and like they are putting themselves at their lover's mercy, but they are willing to take that risk just to be with their lover.

It is hard to describe the sentiment that the voice of Billy Eckstine generates among the older generations; we would all like to go back to when we were 18 and had our life to look forward to. I hope that the younger generation can appreciate what good music is. Roger Plafkin--Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan

One thing is to have a beautiful voice, another is to know how sing. Billy Eckstine had both.

I loved Billy Eckstine's voice as I grew up, in England. Now, as a 90 year old American, I still listen to him, and love him. Carol Watkinson

OMG. Hearing the Late Great Mr B Eckstine brought memories of my dad crooning to my mom (and he had a nice smooth voice 😊). Don’t think I thought about this for 50+ years! Thanks for stirring up a pleasant memory of my very young days (late 1940s l was 5 or 6). Thanks for posting!
