All That You Are
Econoline Crush Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I said it, I meant it
I'm not really demented
I'm just saying it's been said again and again
Not that I'm all that grounded
I'm already dumbfounded
I'm a liar believe me, baby

Well it's all that you are
You're just one shining star
Well that's all that you are

Maybe everything's changed
And maybe I stayed the same
What does it matter to me now, anyway
If I ever regret it
If I'm ever repentant
Karma sings and we'll dance the dance, baby

Well that's all that you are
Your just one shining star
Well it's all that you are
You're just one shining star

Do do do do yeah yeah yeah (x3)

If I said it, I meant it
I'm not really demented
I'm just saying it's been said again and again
Not that I'm all that grounded
I'm already dumbfounded
I'm a liar believe me, baby

Well it's all that you are
You're just one shining star
Well it's all that you are
You're just one shining star
(It's all that you are)

Well it's all that you are
You're just one shining star

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Econoline Crush's song All That You Are is about the realization that a person is just a small part of the universe, just one shining star among many others. The singer tries to acknowledge their flaws and their past mistakes, without getting stuck in regretting them – rather, they want to move on and enjoy the moment. The singer admits that they have lied before, and they don't feel grounded, yet they insist that they meant what they have said. The chorus reassures the listener that they are just a shining star, without any need to be more or less than that.

The song can be seen as a reminder of humility and acceptance, as well as an encouragement to let go of the past and embrace the present. It acknowledges that mistakes will be made along the way, but acceptance of these mistakes and moving forward from them is what's important.

Count me as a lucky American who got the Canadian music channel MuchMusic on our local cable in Albany, NY back in the day.... I discovered so may great Canadian bands in the '90s like Econoline Crush, Sloan, Tragically Hip, and Odds who I all still love to this day. ¡Viva Canadian Rock!

One of the best 90's songs  of course, its atmosphere takes me back at the 90's.

For sure. Gives me a sad sense of nostalgia that kind of feels good.

@Majestic Sanctuary Same, this was one of my favorite songs as a kid. And later on in my mid 20's, I actually got to open for them. Kinda crazy thinking back to being a kid in my room listening to this and never even dreaming I'd be a musician and open for them one day, let alone meet them. But somehow that happened. If only kid me knew lol. So now there's like an extra layer of nostalgia for me when I hear their music

@Flamsterette

To, not at.
