I'm In the Mood for Love
Eddie Fisher Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Simply because you're near me.
Funny, but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love.
Heaven is in your eyes
Bright as the stars we're under
Oh! Is it any wonder
Why stop to think of whether
This little dream might fade?
We've put our hearts together
Now we are one, I'm not afraid!
If there's a cloud above
If it should rain we'll let it
But for tonight, forget it!
I'm in the mood for love
The above lyrics are a declaration of love spoken by the singer towards the person who is near him. The song starts with the phrase “I’m in the mood for love” which means the singer is experiencing a sensation of love or deep longing for his partner. He explains that this emotion is evoked simply because his partner is nearby. Being in the same vicinity with his partner enhances his emotions and makes him feel more passionate towards them.
The second stanza talks about the physical features of his partner, particularly their eyes. He describes how her eyes resemble heaven and how bright they are, as bright as the stars under which they are. He wonders if it is surprising that he is feeling such strong emotions when he is near her. The third stanza emphasizes his determination to keep the romance alive and enjoy the moment without worrying about the future. He says that they have put their hearts together and they are now one, implying that they are unified in their feelings of love.
The final stanza confirms his resolve to enjoy the romantic moment despite any obstacles, such as clouds above or the threat of raining. He says, “we’ll let it”, indicating that they will not let anything dampen their spirits or emotions. The song speaks of pure, unadulterated desire for the one the singer loves and how they feel when they are together, the way it makes them feel.
