Lara's Theme
Eddie Fisher Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There will be songs to sing
Although the snow
Covers the hope of spring
Where are the beautiful days?
Where are the sleigh rides to dawn?
Where are the tender moments of splendor?
Somewhere a hill
Blossoms in green and gold
And there are dreams
All that your heart can hold
Someday we'll meet again, my love
Someday whenever the spring breaks through
Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow
Till then my sweet, think of me now and then
God speed my love till you are mine again
Somewhere my love
The song "Lara's Theme" was written by Maurice Jarre for the 1965 movie "Doctor Zhivago". The song was then popularized by Eddie Fisher's lyrics, which expressed a longing for a lost love. The lyrics speak of hope and nostalgia for the beautiful moments and memories shared with a loved one.
The first verse speaks of the promise of hope, even when everything seems bleak and covered by snow. There will be songs to sing, even when the promise of spring seems hidden. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for the enduring human spirit, always finding ways to continue on even in the midst of difficult circumstances.
The second verse speaks of a hill blossoming in green and gold, and dreams that your heart can hold. This verse also alludes to the coming of spring, when everything will burst into life and color once again. The final verse speaks directly to the lost love with whom the singer hopes to be reunited in the future, despite the difficulties of the present. It is a sweet and poignant message of longing and hope.
