I'm Sending the Fire

For the prophets of Baal desecrated their land
sleeping with the enemy while falling to idolatry
God's chosen people forgot who they were called to be
So Elijah said, "If Baal be God, then follow him
But if the Lord, if He be God Then follow him
I'm sending the fire
I hear the sound of the abundance of rain
For those who would dare to call on my name
I'm sending the fire
I'm sending the fire
So Elijah said, "Now I've had enough
I'm tired of you messing with God's holy stuff
So let's build an altar, prepare a sacrifice
We're gonna see who is God
We're going to see who's the Christ
And the God who answers by fire let Him be God
I said, that the God who answers by fire
Let Him be God
Now just like the prophets of Baal way back then
This generation has fallen into the same kind of sin
The money god, the lust god, the god called religion
Allah, Hindu, Buddha, New Age
We can't make a decision
But the God who answers by fire
Let Him be God
I said, that the God who answers by fire
Let him be God
I'm sending the fire
I'm sending the flame
I hear the sound of the abundance of rain
For those who would dare to call on my name
I'm sending the fire
I'm sending the fire
There's an Elijah generation that's rising in this hour
forerunners for Jesus filled with glory and power
Voices in the wilderness preparing the way
This is the generation that is seeking my face
for I am the God who answers by fire
I am your God
I am the God who answers by fire
I am your God
I'm sending the fire
I'm sending the flame
I hear the sound of the abundance of rain
For those who would dare to call on my name
I'm sending the fire
I'm sending the fire
Fire, fire,fire, fire
We need the Holy Ghost
We need the Holy Ghost
Fire
The lyrics of "I'm Sending the Fire" by Eddie James speak about the story of Elijah and the false prophets of Baal from the Bible. The story is set during a time when God’s chosen people, Israel, had strayed away from their faith and turned to idol worship, particularly the worship of the god Baal. Elijah challenged the false prophets of Baal to a contest of sacrifice, asking them to call on their god to light the altar on fire. However, despite their cries and self-inflicted wounds, Baal failed to bring down fire from heaven. Elijah then dug a trench around the altar, filled it with water, and prayed to God, and fire came down from heaven, consuming the offering, wood, stones, and even the water.
The song is a call to the current generation to return to their faith and worship God alone. The lyrics talk about how the current world has turned to the worship of money, lust, and religion, without making any significant decisions. Eddie James explains the need for an "Elijah generation" that will rise and prepare the way for Jesus with glory and power, a generation that will seek God's face and worship Him alone. The refrain "I'm sending the fire" speaks about how God will show up and consume everything that is not of Him, and how He will reign as the only true God.
Overall, the song is a call for believers to repent, turn away from idol worship, and seek the Lord in worship and prayer.
