Lang was born Salvatore Massaro, the son of an Italian-American instrument maker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At first, he took violin lessons for 11 years. In school he became friends with Joe Venuti, with whom he would work for much of his career. He was playing professionally by about 1918, playing violin, banjo, and guitar. He worked with various bands in the USA's north-east, worked in London (late 1924 to early 1925), then settled in New York City.
He played with the bands of Venuti, Adrian Rollini, Roger Wolfe Kahn and Jean Goldkette in addition to doing a large amount of freelance radio and recording work.
In 1929 he joined Paul Whiteman's Orchestra, and can be seen and heard in the movie The King of Jazz.
When Bing Crosby left Whiteman, Lang went with Bing as his accompanist and can be seen with him in the 1932 movie Big Broadcast.
Lang also played under the pseudonym Blind Willie Dunn on a number of blues records with Lonnie Johnson.
Eddie Lang died from a sudden hemorrhage following a tonsillectomy in New York City.

Stars have lost their meaning for me
I'll never be the same
Nothing's what it once use to be
And when the songbirds that sing
Tell me it's spring
I can't believe their song
Once love was king but kings can be wrong
There is such an ache in my heart
Never be the same since we're apart
Though there's a lot that a smile may hide
I know down deep inside
I'll never be the same never be the same again
I'll never be the same
Stars have lost their meaning for me
I'll never be the same
Nothing's what it once use to be
And when the songbirds that sing
Tell me it's spring
I can't believe their song
Once love was king but kings can be wrong
I'll never be the same
There is such an ache in my heart
Never be the same since we're apart
Though there's a lot that a smile may hide
I know down deep inside
The lyrics to Eddie Lang's song, "I'll Never Be The Same," are a melancholic reflection on lost love and the difficulty of moving on. The singer expresses that they will never return to the same state of mind they once had, as everything has changed since their separation. The stars have lost their meaning, as the beauty of the world no longer holds any significance to the singer now that they've lost their love. The songbirds' songs of spring hold no joy for the singer, who can't believe in the promise of new beginnings after their loss. The singer reminisces about the past when love was king, but acknowledges that it was a false idol, as kings can be wrong. Now that they are alone, there is a constant ache in their heart, and they know deep down that they will never be the same again.
The lyrics possess a delicate simplicity, yet the sadness they create is palpable. The word choice is understated, giving room for the listener to insert their own pain and heartbreak into the song. The refrain "I'll never be the same" reinforces the depth of the singer's loss and the impossibility of returning to their former self.
