I
Eddie and the Tide Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am the one who comes to you
I'm behind you, I'm watching you
I am the one who knocks at your door
I'm in your floor, your security is poor
And I'm coming to get you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I" by Eddie and the Tide are quite intense and chilling. The song appears to describe a stalker or a predator who is watching and waiting for their victim. The first verse starts with the singer identifying themselves as the person who comes to the victim. The repetition of the word "I" in the chorus gives a sense of the stalker's singular focus on their prey. The second verse describes how they are lurking behind the victim, watching their every move. They are so close, they are in the victim's floor.

The line "your security is poor" implies that the victim is vulnerable and not well-protected. The lyrics give a sense of foreboding and fear, as the stalker is coming to get the victim. The song is quite haunting and might send a shiver down the listener's spine. The use of the first-person perspective in the lyrics adds to the sense of danger and immediacy.

Overall, "I" by Eddie and the Tide is a powerful song that portrays the mind of a stalker. It is a creepy track that captures the fear and anxiety of being stalked by someone.

Ahh man..the 80's, when Santa Cruz kicked ass.

I saw them when this song was a Bay Area hit. It was at the Inn Of The Beginning, a little church turned into a music venue in Cotati, California. This song is so much better live. They were so young. We all were.

So many good memories. They listened to the wrong people. They should have gone to the top. Few bands had what they had.. The songs , Steve and the boys, all top shelf. Should have listened to the redhead! Thank you for bringing this all back. A band that was truly loved and missed.
