Maybe i
Eddie and the Tide Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Maybe I care too much
Or love too hard
Maybe I want too much
To fill my heart
We love how the story starts
But stories change
And a happy start don't mean
It's gonna end that way
Maybe I was meant to give this love inside of me
And accept the fact I may never receive it
This world ain't built on reciprocity
I try my best but it's hard to believe it
It's one sided, you can't hide it
I'm not asking for the snow to come in May
I only hope when seasons change your feelings stay
But Maybe I'm afraid
Maybe I could care less
but I don't know how
Maybe I could forget
Someway somehow
My heart tries to understand it
Then you took it right out my chest
And did your damage
Maybe I was meant to give this love inside of me
How I've been trying so hard receive it back
This world ain't built on reciprocity
I try my best but it's hard to believe it
It's one sided, you can't hide it
I'm not asking for the snow to come in May
I only hope when seasons change your feelings stay

But Maybe I'm afraid
Maybe I

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Eddie and the Tide's song "Maybe I" portray a narrator who is struggling with their own feelings of love and vulnerability. The singer questions whether they care too much or love too hard, recognizing that maybe their expectations are too high when it comes to filling their heart with love. The singer acknowledges that while they may have had a happy start, stories can change and that doesn't necessarily mean the ending will be happy. They may never receive the love they give, but they are willing to continue trying despite it being difficult.

The singer also acknowledges their own fears and uncertainties. They may be afraid to care too much or afraid to care less, and they may not know how to forget their feelings. Love is something they try to understand, but it can also be damaging when it's taken away from them. Overall, the lyrics portray a sense of vulnerability, uncertainty, and hopefulness in the face of love.

Wow! Thank you for this fantastic upload!! Love this band! Saw them the first time when I was 11 at the Santa Clara County Fair in 1984... they were amazing! All of their material was great, but there's just something special about the Maybe I'll Get Lucky E.P. and I Do It For You album. They still get a ton of play in my household. My wife and boys love this stuff, too. Still hoping for a Bay Area reunion concert, even if only just one time.

OMG Your dad is George. He was my boss’ insurance agent but I couldn’t place where I knew him. I go,Lowe’s Eddie & The Tide up and down The Bay including The Keystone Palo Alto and high school reunion. When I finally put 2+2 together my boss gave me the best going away present when I moved to the UK. George gave her a signed LP. Kept it for over 24 years. Good times 🎶🎶

Hi Travis! Tell George and Chris 'hi' for me. I did monitors and guitars for them back in the day. Always loved the energy of that first song with them :-) Great times!

Oh man, I appreciate the upload you guys. This really takes me back. I was a 20 year old soldier in the Army stationed at Ft Ord from 85 to 87 when I first heard this band on the radio. I found the cassette "Go Out and Get It" and listened to it over and over on my daily commute from an apartment in Salinas to the base. I got to spend 2 and a half years stationed there travelling up and down the California coast whenever I had time off listening to this band. Looking back, yeah, the duty assignment was tough, but it really was the best of times. I'm in my mid 50s now. I'm disabled and have ptsd. Anytime I can take a trip down memory lane even for a little bit like this is a welcome break from today's bs. Music is life. Thanks.

Fort Ord!!! Y’all going way back . They used to performup and down the Bay. Drove down to Salinas to watch them or whenever they were at The Keystone Palo Alto

I was an Army brat living at Fort Ord from '76-'81 until my parents divorced. Stayed in the area, graduated from Salinas High in '86. Cannot think of anyone during my time in high school that didn't listen to Eddie and the Tide. Salinas, North Salinas, Palma/Notre Dame/ Monterey/ Pacific Grove/Carmel High School, etc... Was able to see E&Tide live multiple times, in Salinas, Monterey, Santa Cruz. Thanks for the memories. My son, 15, listens to E&Tide today! ROCK ON!!
