Heavily influenced by American rock & roll, Mitchell (who went solo in 1963) has often recorded outside France, at first in London, but later in Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee. Guitarist Jimmy Page and drummer Bob Graham were among the British session musicians who regularly supported him in London.

The song "L" by French singer Eddy Mitchell describes the encounter between the singer and a girl who is lost in her dreams of becoming a movie star, completely unaware of the people around her. The girl is heavily made up and leaning on a jukebox, imagining herself auditioning for a part with the Century Fox film studio. She seems confident and comfortable with herself, but her eyes reveal a longing for the spotlight. The singer is enamored with her but realizes that he is just a bystander in her fantasy world. She moves like a cat, exuding a sense of superiority as she mimes the words to the song playing on the jukebox, revealing the depth of her emotions. However, when a man enters the scene, the girl's facade cracks, and she lashes out angrily at the jukebox. The singer realizes that even though he was attracted to her, he was nothing more than a supporting character in her overblown story.
The song poignantly captures the essence of chasing after dreams and the thin line between ambition and delusion. The girl is so caught up in her desire for fame that she ignores the people and situations around her, ultimately leading to her downfall. Her eyes, which are described as "couleur menthe à l'eau" or mint green, represent her innocence, naivete, and vulnerability. Meanwhile, the singer, who is an observer in this story, comes across as more grounded and realistic, realizing that he is not part of her dream and must move on. "L" is a sobering reminder of the dangers of losing oneself in one's own aspirations and the importance of being present in the moment.

Merci Eddy !
