Heavily influenced by American rock & roll, Mitchell (who went solo in 1963) has often recorded outside France, at first in London, but later in Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee. Guitarist Jimmy Page and drummer Bob Graham were among the British session musicians who regularly supported him in London.

Baby, here I am, I'm a man on the scene
I can give you what you want
But you gotta' come home with me
I got some good old lovin'
And I got it in store
When I get through throwin' it on
Boys and girls come by the dozen
And that ain't nothing but drugstore lovin'
Pretty little thing, let me light your candle
'Cause mama I'm sure hard to handle now, yessir'am
Yeow!
Bon dieu! tu es très pris
Tu reçois suivant tes désirs
J'aimerais t'entretenir d'un sujet qui me fait souffrir
Toi qui repends la bonté suivant ta publicité
Explique-moi le départ de mon ami à la peau noire
Qui faisait faire, f-f-f-faire ou bien got to, got to, got to, got to
Si tu es dieu comme on le dit, dis-moi pourquoi nous l'as-tu repris, réponds moi!

Here comes!
Baby, here I am, I'm a man on the scene (on the scene)
I can give you what you want
But you gotta' come home with me
I got some good old lovin'
Got it in the store
When I get through throwin' it on
You gotta' come back for more
Boys and girls come by the dozen
And that ain't nothing but drugstore lovin'
Pretty little thing, let me light your candle
'Cause mama I'm sure hard to handle now, yessir'am
Yeow, ooh, ooh!
Give it to me! Baby!
Baby
Facile à dire
Here I am
Hey man!
Facile à dire
Little mama! Facile à dire
Give it to me
Facile à dire
Facile à dire
I want it, mama
Baby
Facile à dire
Hey man!
Pretty little thing
Baby! Give it to me
Facile à dire
Baby! I want it
Baby! Huh!
The lyrics to Eddy Mitchell's song Otis exude confidence and sexual prowess. The first verse speaks to his ability to fulfill a woman's needs, but only if she agrees to come home with him. He promises to give her good old-fashioned loving that she won't be able to resist. The chorus reinforces this idea with the repetition of "you gotta come back for more" after he's done throwing it on her. The second verse takes a political and social turn, as Eddy questions the departure of his black friend, asking God why he took him away. The third verse returns to the earlier themes of confidence and desire, with Eddy repeating "give it to me" and "baby" over and over again.
The use of Otis Redding's name throughout the song is a nod to the soul and R&B singer who died tragically in a plane crash at the age of 26. It is said that Mitchell wrote the song as a tribute to Redding, as he was a major influence on his music. Mitchell's version of Otis was released in 1973, the same year as Redding's posthumous album, "The Dock of the Bay." Mitchell's vocals on the song are full of energy and swagger, which is fitting given the song's subject matter.
