Circles
Eden Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And if I told you how this story ends
Would you change a step you take?
And if I could relive all of my days
I'd live them all the same

'Cause I'm scared, of all that I don't know
'Cause I want it all but all of it ain't gold
And I'm scared, but I know it's not for long
'Cause I'm learning what I should've long before

That all we are
Is a light into the darkness
And all we are
Is time that's counting down
And all we are
Is falling through the spaces in between
Endless flight
A lifetime in repeat

But I still find solace
When you say that you know how I feel when it's wrong
And we ain't been right for years

Let go, give these ghosts a new home
Let's bury our past and our fears and all these bones
Let's go, I should've seen it long before 'cause this is my life
I will not run in circles, ending where I start

So hold on to me, we'll burn out slowly
And feel our hearts leap to words we don't mean, love

Means nothing to me 'cause I don't know what it is
I'm just dying to be all that I've been dreaming of
And words betray me, contradict all I stand for
But I'm still learning
Yeah I'm still learning

That all we are
Is a light into the darkness
And oh we are
Just time that's counting down
And all we are
Is falling through the spaces in between
Endless flight

We're falling to our knees

Overall Meaning

The song Circles by Eden is a powerful and reflective piece that addresses the fear of the unknown and the desire to make the most of life while grappling with the mistakes that one has made along the way. The opening lines “And if I told you how this story ends, would you change a step you take?” pose a thought-provoking question that encourages listeners to reflect on their own choices and actions. The fear of uncertainty is heavily present throughout the song, with lines like “'Cause I'm scared of all that I don't know” and “'Cause I want it all but all of it ain't gold.”

The chorus emphasizes the universal human experience of being finite, with lyrics like “And all we are is a light into the darkness” and “And all we are is falling through the spaces in between.” The song acknowledges that the human experience is full of mistakes and missteps, but ultimately there is beauty in the struggle. The lyrics “We’re falling to our knees” are symbolic of the moment of realization when one is forced to confront their flaws and inadequacies. The song ends with the hopeful lines “But I'm still learning, yeah I'm still learning,” which speak to the idea that growth and self-improvement are ongoing processes.

And if I told you how this story ends
If I were to disclose how this tale concludes

Would you change a step you take?

And if I could relive all of my days

I'd live them all the same
I would make the exact same choices and decisions

'Cause I'm scared, of all that I don't know
Because I'm afraid of the unknown

'Cause I want it all but all of it ain't gold
Because I desire everything, but not everything is worth having

Although I am fearful, I acknowledge that this feeling will pass

'Cause I'm learning what I should've long before
Because I am finally comprehending valuable lessons that I should have known earlier

That all we are
We are simply

Is a light into the darkness
beacons of hope amidst despair

We are merely

Is time that's counting down
time that is gradually slipping away

And all we are
We are nothing more than

Is falling through the spaces in between
descending through the gaps that exist

Endless flight
an interminable journey

A lifetime in repeat
a cycle of existence that happens repeatedly over a lifespan

But I still find solace
Nevertheless, I discover calm and comfort

When you say that you know how I feel when it's wrong
When you assure me that you understand my emotions when things don't go smoothly

And we ain't been right for years
And things haven't been going well for us for a long time

Let go, give these ghosts a new home
Release your past, and provide your demons a new abode

Let's bury our past and our fears and all these bones
Let's lay to rest our history, apprehension, and skeletons

Let's go, I should've seen it long before 'cause this is my life
Let's move on, I ought to have realized this earlier because it's my existence

I will not run in circles, ending where I start
I refuse to engage in a futile, circular pattern that leads me back to my starting point

So hold on to me, we'll burn out slowly
Therefore, hold me tight, and we'll exhaust ourselves slowly

And feel our hearts leap to words we don't mean, love
And feel our emotions respond to statements that we don't truly mean, my love

Means nothing to me 'cause I don't know what it is
Love is insignificant to me since I don't recognize its identification

I'm just dying to be all that I've been dreaming of
I'm just eagerly longing to become everything that I've ever wished for

And words betray me, contradict all I stand for
And words deceive me, oppose all of my principles

But I'm still learning
But I'm constantly expanding my knowledge

Yeah I'm still learning
Yes, I'm continuing to acquire new insights

And oh we are
And indeed we are

Just time that's counting down
simply time that is ticking away

We're falling to our knees
We are descending onto our knees

LYRICS:
And if I told you how this story ends,
Would you change every step you take?
And if I could relive all of my days,
I'd live them all the same.

'cause I'm scared, of all that I don't know,
'cause I want it all but all of it ain't gold.
And I'm scared, but I know it's not for long
'cause I'm learning what I should've long before.

That all we are,
Is a light into the darkness;
And all we are
Is time that's counting down.
And all we are,
Is falling through the spaces in between;
Endless flight,
A lifetime in repeat.

But I still find solace,
When you say
That you know how I feel
When it's wrong,
And it ain't been right for years.

Let go, give these ghosts a new home;
Let's bury our past and our fears and all these bones.
Let's go, I should've seen it long before;
'cause this is my life
I will not run in circles
Ending where I start.

So hold on to me,
We'll burn out slowly.
And feel our hearts leap
To words we don't mean:

Love.
Means nothing to me,
'cause I don't know what it is.
I'm just dying to be
All that I've been dreaming of.
And words betray me,
Contradict all I stand for;
But I'm still learning.
Yeah I'm still learning.

That all we are,
Is a light into the darkness.
And oh we are,
Just time that's counting down.
And all we are,
Is falling through the spaces in between;
Endless flight,

We're falling to our knees.
ENJOY :)

Is nobody gonna talk about how in this new version you can literally hear his voice breaking as if he's crying while singing? I think that is probably what sells this remake so much for me. Just the pure and utter emotion you feel from this voice and emotion he creates just by using a song. Its so amazing.
