Edgar Froese (born Edgar Wilmar Froese on 6 June 1944; died 20 January 2015… Read Full Bio ↴Edgar Froese (born Edgar Wilmar Froese on 6 June 1944; died 20 January 2015) was a German musical artist and electronic music pioneer, best known for founding the electronic music group Tangerine Dream in 1967. Froese was the only continuous member of the group until his death. While his solo and group recordings prior to 2003 name him as "Edgar Froese", his later solo albums bear the name "Edgar W. Froese".
Froese was born in Tilsit, East Prussia (now Sovetsk, Russia) during World War II. After showing an early aptitude for art, Froese enrolled at the Academy of the Arts in West Berlin to study painting and sculpture. In 1965, he formed a band called The Ones, which played rock and R&B standards at popular bohemian nightclubs. While playing in Spain, The Ones were invited to perform at Salvador Dali's villa in Cadaques. Froese's encounter with Salvador Dali was highly influential, inspiring him to pursue more experimental directions with his music. The Ones disbanded in 1967, having only released one single ("Lady Greengrass"/"Love of Mine").
After returning to Berlin, Froese began recruiting musicians for the free-rock band that would become Tangerine Dream.

@OldVillain
I bought this album (on vinyl) when I was first released in 1975.
Recently, I bought the CD on Amazon and I was horrified at what had been done to the album.
It was as though some child had crayoned in parts of a beautiful landscape painting.
I did some research on the Web and found that Edgar had added to and "improved" the original piece.
Horrible banging and metallic sounds crashing over the original music.
FFS!
The music publisher should have had a sticker across the front of the CD stating "WARNING! THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL MUSIC!
Thank you for uploading the beautiful original music (I no longer have a turntable or sound system to play the vinyl version - I went down the iPod and headphone route).

My favorite Froese album by far. A mellotron masterpiece.
@fandru5538
IMO, his best work, in solo and with Tangerine Dream. The first minutes on the mellotron are just a miracle, a gift from heaven. And all the music is so beautiful and peaceful. Thanks and RIP Edgar.

I totally approve, I bought this record as soon as it came out, I consider it Edgar Froese's best solo album.
@dervishmadwhirler
Aqua and Epsilon are imo both kinda equally brilliant. Aqua is immersive and active, yet still relaxed, Epsilon is soothing and relaxed. All synths and the artificial head are used at their best.
@ericvelizy19
Aqua is at least equal in quality

This was long forgotten for me. I feel that it's a gift to have rediscovered Edgar Froese and Tangerine Dream. I appreciate now with a different ear and new perspectives.
