Froese was the only continuous member of the group until his death. While his solo and group recordings prior to 2003 name him as "Edgar Froese", his later solo albums bear the name "Edgar W. Froese".
Froese was born in Tilsit, East Prussia (now Sovetsk, Russia) during World War II. After showing an early aptitude for art, Froese enrolled at the Academy of the Arts in West Berlin to study painting and sculpture. In 1965, he formed a band called The Ones, which played rock and R&B standards at popular bohemian nightclubs. While playing in Spain, The Ones were invited to perform at Salvador Dali's villa in Cadaques. Froese's encounter with Salvador Dali was highly influential, inspiring him to pursue more experimental directions with his music. The Ones disbanded in 1967, having only released one single ("Lady Greengrass"/"Love of Mine").
After returning to Berlin, Froese began recruiting musicians for the free-rock band that would become Tangerine Dream.

Edgar Froese was an amazing artist in his own right; his ability to coordinate musical scores into something unique and pleasant sounding was an ability not many have in their lifetimes.

…and all produced way way before we had Logic or Ableton or any other 21st Century DAW……stunning, I just lose myself in all those arpeggios…..so immersive….Edgar was, is the master here…

Edgar will always be remembered for fantastic music. I saw him live in Newcastle a long time ago and am still an avid fan. Rest in peace.

Some tracks on this album are for me something beyond just music. A feeling, a picture in the mind's eye. Specific Gravity for instance just keeps building and building and building until that strange moment at 0:06:47 where it all disappears, and leaves that liquid sequence. This then fades to a still, clear starry moonlit night on an empty beach in remote Western Australia. I know in my heart that's what Edgar was describing.

Wonderful music. I bought the vinyl record right after its initial release. And I still have it.
