Valid World
Edge of Dawn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I persevere
I hold my breath
Save you from the fire
Compassionate monster
Destroy yourself
Choke on the hatred
I grow strong, I grow tall
I'm a living wall
I'm not frail, I can't fail
In my valid world
I am strong, I am tall
And I'm sick of it all
And I'm tired
So tired
I hold my breath
Save you from my fire
I am Temblor
I persevere
I hold my breath
Spare you my rage
Not a word is true
This place not of nature
It's all fantasy
Empty poetry
The first verse of "Valid World" by Edge of Dawn appears to be examining the idea of being a powerful, dangerous force but ultimately finding the strength to harness that power for good. The singer refers to themselves as "Vesuvius," a volcano infamous for its catastrophic eruption, yet they seem to have control over their destructive capabilities, using them to "save you from the fire." This could be interpreted as a metaphor for someone who has a lot of intense emotions or anger but has learned to channel it in a productive way that benefits others. The line "compassionate monster" underscores this dichotomy - the singer is capable of great destruction, but they are also capable of great care.
The second verse continues this theme of control, with the singer referring to themselves as "Temblor," a word that means earthquake. They again emphasize their ability to hold back their power, sparing others from their "rage." The rest of the verse seems to suggest a rejection of falsehoods - "not a word is true" and "it's all fantasy" - perhaps speaking to a desire for honesty and authenticity in relationships and society at large. The chorus reinforces the idea that the singer is "strong" and "tall" (metaphorically speaking) and can withstand any challenge in their "valid world," but that they are also tired and burdened by the weight of their power.
