In the late 1980s Brickell was the lead singer with the (now renamed) folk-rock group Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, whose 1988 debut album Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars was a critical and commercial success. The band's follow-up album, Ghost of a Dog (1990), fared less well. As a solo artist, Brickell released Picture Perfect Morning (1994) and Volcano (2003). In 2006 she reunited with some of the original members of the New Bohemians and they released the Stranger Things album.
Brickell had a role as a folk singer in the 1989 film Born on the Fourth of July. Her version of Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" is featured on the film's soundtrack. Many computer users know her from the "Good Times" video which was included as part of the multimedia samples on the Windows 95 installation CD-ROM.
Brickell married songwriter Paul Simon in 1992. They have three children.
Another Woman's Dream
Edie Brickell Lyrics

Your eyes finally meet mine
But you belong to someone else
So fantasy is all I find
Alive only in my mind
Oh but to, creep into your room
A little help from the silver moon
To silently fill your dreamsYou'd take my hand and follow me to
Another time, a land unseen
Another woman's dream
Come with me, on a wild fantasy
Be one with earth, moon and sky
Then lie with me awhile
As we defy the hands of time!
Come see the haven, I have buried deep inside
Hear my secrets, dreams and fears
Will you recognize my soul, before we grow too old?
Late at night, in the darkness of my mind
These visions haunt my dreams
Of you and I searching silently apart
Is it as crazy as it seems?
I think I know what it means
To break through this hell
And cast a magic spell
To send you back in time
The lyrics of Edie Brickell's "Another Woman's Dream" delve into the theme of unrequited love. The singer of the song is someone who is in love with a person who already belongs to someone else. Late at night, when the singer is lying in bed, she imagines what it would be like if her love interest belonged only to her. She fantasizes about sneaking into their room with the help of the silver moon and taking them to a land unseen where they can be together.
The chorus of the song is an invitation to the love interest to come on a wild fantasy with the singer. They would be one with the earth, moon, and sky and lie together defying the hands of time. The singer asks the love interest to recognize her soul before they grow too old, indicating that she hopes for reciprocation or at least acknowledgement of her love. The bridge of the song is a vivid description of the singer's dreams, where she and the love interest are silently searching for something. The singer wonders if her dreams are as crazy as they seem, yet she still longs for a way to break through her hell and cast a magic spell to send the love interest back in time.
Overall, the song paints a poignant picture of unrequited love and the longing for a love that can never be realized.
