Over into the light
And wouldn't let sickness
Take our closest friends
Were we so wrong
To want them here
Now were we so wrong
Take their misery over
Don't disappear
We'd share the cost
Stand up in your defense
And wouldn't let sickness
Take our closest friends
Were we so wrong
To want them here
Now were we so wrong
To want them here
Take their misery over
Don't disappear
Don't disappear
Don't disappear
Don't disappear
In the song "Light" by Edith Frost, the singer is struggling with the loss of friends due to sickness. The lyrics are characterized by a strong sense of empathy and a desire to alleviate the suffering of those affected. The singer expresses a willingness to switch the darkness over into the light, to share the cost, and to stand up in defense of their closest friends. The repetition of the phrase "were we so wrong to want them here" reinforces the idea that the desire to help others should be a natural and selfless instinct.
The lines "Take their misery over, don't disappear" suggest that the singer is aware of the temptation to turn away from the pain of others and retreat into isolation. However, the repetition of "don't disappear" emphasizes the importance of remaining present and engaged with those who are suffering. The song is ultimately a powerful tribute to the resilience and compassion of the human spirit, even in the face of loss and grief.
