Born in Rome, Italy, Vianello started his career in 1956. His first successes came in 1961, with Il capello (Hair) and Pinne fucile ed occhiali (Fins, Spear, and Goggles), which both charted up to the 2nd position in the Italian Hit Parade.
Vianello had several successes in the 1960s, such as Guarda come dondolo (Watch as I Swing), Abbronzatissima (Very Tanned), O mio signore (Oh My Lord) which topped the charts, and I Watussi which went up to 3rd. After a less successful period, he re-launched his career in the 1970s, founding the duo Vianella with his wife Wilma Goich. Their main hit of the period was Semo gente de borgata (We Are People from a Small Town) that reached #7. In the late 1970s, he reprised his solo career.
As of 2006, the songs of Vianello were included in the soundtracks of 64 films while the Italian rights-collecting agency SIAE estimates sales of over 50 million Vianello records worldwide.

Il peperone
Edoardo Vianello Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ormai pure all'ombra continui a scottarti
Nemmeno la luna riesce a calmarti
Appena ti stringo tu urli tu piangi
Mio pallido amor
Ah
The song Il peperone by Edoardo Vianello is about a woman who loves to sunbathe and spend time at the beach, but in doing so, she has become severely sunburnt and uncomfortable. The lyrics describe her skin turning red, blistering, and resembling a pepper. The woman tries to remedy her burnt skin with creams but only ends up with more blisters. She is so addicted to being in the sun that even when she is in the shade, she still burns. The singer of the song is telling his partner that he loves her, but he cannot ignore the pain and discomfort she is in because of her obsession with tanning.
The song can be interpreted as a cautionary tale about the dangers of excessive sun exposure and the importance of taking care of your skin. The woman's desire for a tan has led to discomfort and pain, leading the singer to worry about her well-being. The lyrics also capture the singer's frustration with his partner's disregard for her health and safety.
Overall, the song Il peperone is a light-hearted take on a serious subject, as it highlights the dangers of tanning and the importance of self-care.

Since you started sunbathing, you have been making yourself vulnerable to the sun's rays
Sei rossa spellata sei come un peperone
You are burnt and peeling like a red pepper
Bagnata dall'acqua dall'acqua di sale
Soaked in saltwater
Baciata dal vento che viene dal mare
Kissed by the wind that comes from the sea
Accanto alla riva pian piano ti lasci
Slowly, you let yourself be by the shore
Bruciare dal sol
Burned by the sun
Con tutte le creme massaggi la pelle
You apply all kinds of creams and massage your skin
But day by day, you're getting more and more blisters
Your legs, arms, nose, and shoulders

Not even the moon can soothe you
Appena ti stringo tu urli tu piangi
As soon as I hug you, you scream and cry

My pale love
Avevi le labbra così vellutate

E oggi le hai rosse così screpolate
But now they are red and chapped
It's like kissing a nettle on a sun-dried field
