In december of 1999 the band got the formation it has today: Pelle sings, Filip Carvell plays the acoustic and the electric guitar and sings, Helena Söderman plays the flute, melodica, harmonica, glockenspiel, Wurlitzer and sings, Mårten Josjö plays the electric guitar, Mats Deltin plays the bass and Ulf Lundberg the drums.
In 1999 Edson made about 30 live appearances, e.g. one at the demo stage of the Hultsfred festival in Sweden. After the performance Edson met John Cloud, who was interested in releasing something on his label Stormstreet records. In September a four-track EP was released containing the songs Sunday, Lovely Sunday, I Didn´t Mean to be Mean, 22:22 {We Need a Quarrel, We Need a Fight} and Terry Whips.
The same year the band contributed with two songs on the compilation CD The Sound of Young Sweden and with one song each on Sound Affects Magazine's »Hultsfred special-CD« and the »Demoscenen«-CD of the Hultsfred festival. The Sunday, lovely sunday EP was also released by Matinée Recordings in the US, but with a slightly different tracklist.
In the autumn of -00 Edson was signed to Summersound Recordings and recorded their debut album Unwind with edson, which was released February 14 2001 and was received well.
Album number two, For Strength, was recorded and mixed during ten intensive days in the end of December of 2001, once again with Andreas Ahlenius as technician and once again mainly in the rock metropolis of Gävle, Sweden. The result is very satisfactory. Edson has evolved as a unity, and their sound is more homogenous and personal.

When the Mind Suffers the Body Cries Out
Edson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What you were told
I never realised
Things may grow cold
I always thought
Either you're good
Or either you're bad, but I
But when the mind suffers
The body cries out
It wasn't easy to
Let go of doubt
And when the mind suffers
The body cries out
It wasn't my fault
But the feeling was "shout"
Panic attacks
The things that you do
When I react like a
Bolt from the blue
Sober and mean
Tipsy and sweet
I never thought that I'd
Fall down this deep
But when the mind suffers
The body cries out
It wasn't easy to
Let go of doubt
And when the mind suffers
The body cries out
It wasn't my fault
But the feeling was "shout"
These lyrics are about the struggle of dealing with mental health issues and the physical toll that it takes on the body. The singer has always followed what they were told and never realized that things could grow cold, meaning that they never thought to question the way things were. They thought that people were either good or bad, and had a very black and white view of the world. However, they now realize they misunderstood and things are far more complex than that.
The main chorus of the song repeats the idea that when the mind suffers, the body cries out. This refers to the fact that when dealing with mental health issues, the stress and strain of it can also affect the body physically. The singer understands that it was not easy to let go of doubt and to deal with the negative feelings that accompany mental illness. In fact, the feeling that accompanied it was so intense that it seemed to demand a "shout."
The second verse of the song speaks to the different ways the singer copes with their mental health struggles, from panic attacks to seeking out different coping mechanisms like drinking. They never thought they would fall this deep, suggesting that the struggle has taken an unforeseen toll on their life. The song ultimately highlights the need to destigmatize mental illness and recognize that it is a real struggle that not everyone can just "snap out of."
