Falu was born in El Galpón, Salta in Argentina on July 7, 1923, his parents Juan and Fada being immigrants from Syria. In Salta, the great wellspring of Argentine folkloric music, he met the poet Jaime Dávalos, who set his words to music. Largely self-taught, Falú developed his knowledge through study of the nineteenth century masters and by private study by the prominent Argentine composer, Carlos Gustanivo.
He began his professional career in Buenos Aires in 1945, the poet César Perdiguero being lyricist for several of his compositions. He produced his first LP in 1951, and in 1959 the LP ‘Falú in Paris.’ Later he travelled to Japan, the US, and Spain, France and England, and then the world. He has composed more than 100 pieces, including the classics: ‘Las Golondrinas’ (The Swallows), the zambas ‘La Candelaria’ and ‘La Cuartelera,’ in addition to ‘Argentine Suite.’
Apart from Perdiguero and Davalos, almost all of Argentina’s greatest poets have put words to his music, Gorge Borges, Leon Benaros, Manuel Castilla, Alberico Mansilla and others. He is also the most charming and humble of people, now spending his time between Salta and Buenos Aires.

Zamba De La Candelaria
Eduardo Falú Lyrics

Cerrando ya la oración,
Cuando la luna lloraba,
Astillas de plata, la muerte del sol.
La acunaron esos ríos,
Que murmuran al pasar
Y el viento de los inviernos
Cuando madure la noche,
Zumo de mi soledad,
Se ha de alegrar el camino,
Zambita nochera: la candelaria.
Que se duerma la guitarra,
Hueca de voces que van
Sacando a flor de la tierra,
Recuerdos queridos que no volverán.
Zamba de la candelaria,
Que cuando amanezca irás
Rejuntando estrellas altas:
Los ojos que me hacen a mí trasnochar.
The lyrics of Eduardo Falú's song "Zamba De La Candelaria" depict a wistful and melancholic sentiment, as the zamba was born during sunset as the moon weeps, marking the end of the day's sun. The imagery of the silver shards of moonlight and the murmuring rivers add to the dreamy and serene atmosphere. The song seems to be narrated from the perspective of the zamba itself, seemingly personifying it as a being birthed by the elements of nature, nurtured by the passing winds and the flowing rivers. The zamba's sadness is palpable, as it longs for the return of memories that cannot be relived.
As the night matures, the zamba's tears are dried, and it looks forward to the nocturnal journey ahead. It begs for the guitar to rest, as it sings of lost voices that will never return, deepening the sorrowful mood of the song. The song ends on a somewhat hopeful tone, as the zamba speaks of gathering tall stars and the eyes that keep the singer up all night. The imagery is yet again dreamy, and the language used is poetic, exemplifying Eduardo Falú's skillful narrative style in depicting emotions through musical expression.
In summary, "Zamba De La Candelaria" is a beautifully crafted song, full of poetic imagery and romantic melancholy. It tells the story of a zamba born out of nature's elements, who longs for memories past, but still looks forward to the journey ahead.
