Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros Lyrics

Let's Get High!
High on love

Bounce with the bigots in the North
Got me rocking back and forth
And the bigots in the South
Don't you know it make no difference to me
Ain't we all just Japanese
When we're high on love

Now march by the terror in the east by the terror in the west
God and Allah would be pleased
Don't you know it make no difference to Christ
We're all Jesus in disguise, when we're high on love!

I need Love!
I need your Love!
Yeah, yeah, I need your love!
Love!
High on love

Now march with the lonely one percent
All they wanted was a tent
To go marching with their friends, singing songs
I say we let 'em come along
There's no protest, they're just songs
When we're high on love!

Now march by the murder and the pain and the criminally insane
There's a grand ole' jamboree
Don't you know it don't make no difference to blood
It's all kung-fu in the mud
When we're high on love!

All this talk of who's to blame
For your heartache and your pain
Grab a mirror and some soap
Now let's do the criminal

I need Love!
I need your Love!
Yeah, yeah, I need your love!
Love!
High on love

Everyone love
Everyone love

Help me to love them
Everyone love
Help me to love them
Everyone love
Help me to love them, yeah
Everyone love
Bigots and Assholes
Everyone love

Man in the mirror

Overall Meaning

"Let's Get High" by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros is a song that speaks to the universality of love and how it can bring people together despite their differences. The phrase "let's get high" is being used as a euphemism for getting lost in the feeling of love. The song highlights the divisions and hatred that exist in society, but it also promotes the idea that love can transcend all those barriers.

The first verse mentions "bigots in the North" and "bigots in the South" but the singer doesn't care because "we're all just Japanese when we're high on love." This could be interpreted as the idea that when we are lost in love, all our differences fade away and we are all just human beings. The chorus emphasizes the need for love and the idea that we should all love each other regardless of our differences.

The second verse encourages us to march with "the lonely one percent" and let them come along, singing songs. Again, the idea is that love can bring people together regardless of any other factors. The verse also mentions "murder and the pain and the criminally insane" but states that it makes no difference when we are high on love. The bridge speaks to the idea that we need to love all people and even those we view as "bigots and assholes". The final line, "man in the mirror", is a call to examine ourselves and our own actions and how they contribute to a world filled with love or hate.

My uncle Orpheo is the drummer in the band. I’ve been lucky enough to sit in and play with the band a few times for this song. Happiest feeling ever ❤️

@sgg17003

I like seeing all of them in all the videos. It seems they are all super talented and had a fun time. I've wondered what happened to them. And your uncle has a cool vibe.

Lucky you for having a cool uncle. The drums are phenomenal in this song. Great drummers have a tendency to outshine other musicians with drum solos and it can be problematic. The instruments are so well balanced in this song and the drummer still was able to show off how awesome he is! Nice recording.

Finalmente a melhor música do álbum teve um clipe oficial.

"Raising Hope" introduced me to this awesome band and I was absolutely stoked to hear this song in the credits of "What if". The side benefit of good Movies and TV series is that the often come with incredibly good music. Win - win.
