After breaking up with his girlfriend, moving out of his house, and joining a 12-step program for addiction, Ebert began work on a story about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe. According to Ebert, Sharpe "was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind ... but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love." Ebert later met singer Jade Castrinos in Los Angeles, California, United States. In the summer of 2009, as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Ebert and Castrinos toured the country with a group of fellow musicians in a big white school bus.
Its song "Home" was voted number 15 on the Australian Triple J Hottest 100's 2009 countdown, the largest music poll in the world.

Two voices carry farther than me
I seek your help so that my song may become free
Two voices carry farther than me
And in the morning, sing me love
And in the afternoon, it's love
And in the evening, if they love
And if we sing together, love will sing along
Two voices carry farther than one
Together we can bridge a chorus to the dawn
Two voices carry far, all the days
Time and mind they melt away,
Like the stars and songs of yesterday
Like the melody you can't recall,
But the harmonies you felt them, all the days
This song of solitude has sung its melody
Two voices carry farther than me
I seek your help, so that song may become free
Two voices carry farther than me
And in the morning, sing me love
And in the afternoon, it's love
And in the evening, is there love?
And in the morning, wake up
Time and mind they melt away,
Like the stars and songs of yesterday
Like the melody you can't recall,
But the harmonies you felt them all the days
And if we sing together, love will sing along
Two voices carry farther than one
Together we can bridge a chorus to the dawn
Two voices carry farther than one, farther than one, carry on
And in the morning, wake up
The song "Two" by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros is about the power of love and the importance of community. The first verse describes the singer as a "prisoned man of single melody" whose song is limited by his own voice. He recognizes the potential for his song to grow with the help of others, as "two voices carry farther than me." He asks for assistance from someone, recognizing that his song can only become its best when it is sung together with others.
The chorus reinforces the power of love and unity, with the repetition of the phrase "sing me love" throughout the day. The singer has faith that if they sing together, "love will sing along," and the power of two voices will become more than the sum of their parts. The final verse repeats the recognition of the importance of community and the power of multiple voices.
This song is a beautiful testament to the power of love and the importance of community. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are known for their folk-inspired indie rock and their music is often filled with themes of love, longing, and community.
