After breaking up with his girlfriend, moving out of his house, and joining a 12-step program for addiction, Ebert began work on a story about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe. According to Ebert, Sharpe "was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind ... but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love." Ebert later met singer Jade Castrinos in Los Angeles, California, United States. In the summer of 2009, as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Ebert and Castrinos toured the country with a group of fellow musicians in a big white school bus.
Its song "Home" was voted number 15 on the Australian Triple J Hottest 100's 2009 countdown, the largest music poll in the world.

Tired of church
I'm tired of Jesus
I tried to serve
No religion, my religion is love
My religion love
I'm sick of correct
No religion, love
All that you wanted was all that you find in your heart
All that you wanted was all that you find in your heart
All that you wanted was all that they took from ya
I'm tired of Buddha
So bored of Abraham
I'm tired of Krishna
It feels good to say I am
My religion, my religion is love
My religion, love easy
God approves this message
No religion, love
All that you wanted was all that you find in your heart
All that you wanted was all that you find in your heart
All that you wanted was all that they took from your heart
All that you wanted was all that you found in your heart
All that you wanted was all that you found in your heart
The lyrics to Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' song "Wake Up The Sun" express a weariness and disillusionment with organized religion and traditional notions of spirituality. The singer expresses their exhaustion with God, church, Jesus, Buddha, Abraham, Krishna, and all religious figures and institutions that they have tried to follow or seek solace in. They declare that their religion is love, suggesting a departure from any defined belief system and an embrace of a more universal, inclusive, and personal understanding of spirituality.
The line "No religion, my religion is love" highlights the singer's rejection of organized religion and their choice to prioritize love as their guiding principle. By emphasizing that love is their religion, they are advocating for a more compassionate and empathetic approach to life, rather than subscribing to strict dogmas and rituals. They express a desire to move away from correctness and harm, implying a disillusionment with the judgmental and divisive nature of religious systems.
The repeated refrain "All that you wanted was all that you find in your heart" suggests that the singer believes true fulfillment and connection with the divine can be found within oneself, rather than through external structures or authorities. They assert that what one truly desires and needs can be discovered by looking inward and connecting with one's own heart and intuition.
Overall, "Wake Up The Sun" presents a rejection of established religions and a call for individuals to embrace love as their guiding force, and to search for meaning and fulfillment within themselves.

This song is so beautiful. The lyrics are universal and, the way I personally interpret them is that in religion various people find their sense of self or their identity and with that identity an ego is born. "No religion, my religion is love", to me this lyric is so powerful because I believe in the universe. I think this lyric is talking about killing your ego. So, I interpret this lyric as a mantra for me this means that it is okay to have unorthodox beliefs, and you can be a moral and spiritual person despite your distinct views. Then, the lyric "All that you wanted, was all that you found in your heart" is again such a universal message. It can mean anything, but to me it means that all that you wanted from life, love, your own personal beliefs, self love, ect is what you found within yourself. To me it means acceptance from within yourself, and killing your ego, being so comfortable and so at peace with who you are that everything is background noise. (everything compliments you but can never define you because anything and everything that you essentially need you already have) You are one with the universe, or god, or whatever you believe in.

I hadn't understood the video until I read your comment. I think that you're so right! What your said about the ego, matches perfect to the way I interprect the video now. Someone here in the comments said that those kids had lost all the free movement. That all in control makes them lose their innocence. And I think that's just like you said, that in religion various people find their sense of self or their identity and with that identity an ego is born. So, with this ego, people lose all theyr free movement, because their identity is so connected to what some esppecific religion says, and think that's the only right way to be, that they just lose themselves in that illusion, They even forget the porpose of that all. Just like the kids of the video. They loved to dance, they felt alive and complet when they were dancing. But when they started to dance to the viewers, their ego started to grow, and their dance become mechanic. They even forgot what made they dance in first place. Killing your ego, you may start to see, feel and experience the spirituality much more genuinely.

This is one of my favorite songs in the album, but as of today's, August 30, 2019, 3:30am, this is the first time I saw the official video, and I cannot stop my tears coming out, not only because it is a marvelous video, and the lyrics of the song themselves are unique, but also because I played the video in the precise moment where I needed to find myself with my dancing inner child, and realize that I need to keep "dancing" (as a metaphore, because I am no real dancer, in fact, I suck at dancing!) to enjoy life. It is truly amazing how something can transform you. Kudos to ES&TMZ for the incredibly amazing song, and for the director for capturing the essence & spirit of what the band wanted to transmit. <3

Wake your sun but do not forget that a dance is for two dancers and not a selfish projection. The dance is life.
